Amazon Music HD – 90 Days Free (Or Free Upgrade)

Update 10/2/20: Deal is available again. (Some might prefer this deal instead.)

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Amazon Music HD is offering a 90 day free trial to those who have never used Amazon Music before. If you have you can upgrade to Amazon Music HD for 90 days for free. Amazon Music HD is their new service offering streaming songs of up to 3730 kbps

The Fine Print

  • This 90-day free trial offer is a limited time offer.
  • This offer applies only to the Amazon Music HD Individual Plan and the Amazon Music HD Family Plan and is available only to new subscribers to Amazon Music Unlimited.
  • After the 90-day trial, your subscription to the Amazon Music HD Individual Plan or the Amazon Music HD Family Plan, as applicable, will automatically continue at the monthly price of $14.99 ($12.99 for Prime members) plus applicable tax (if you selected the Amazon Music HD Individual Plan) or $19.99 plus applicable tax (if you selected the Amazon Music HD Family Plan) until you cancel.
  • This offer cannot be combined with any other offer. Digital content and services may only be available to customers located in the U.S. and are subject to the terms and conditions of Amazon Digital Services LLC.
  • Offer limited to one per customer and account. Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time.
  • Offer is non-transferable and may not be resold.
  • If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.

Our Verdict

Remember to cancel if you don’t want the service after the trial, otherwise you’ll be charged up to $19.99 per month. Personally I don’t really care for super high bit rate music, but I’m not an audiophile so obviously not the target market.

Post history:

  • Update 8/10/20: Deal is available again. Hat tip to Information Booth.
  • Update 3/15/20: Deal has been extended.
  • Update 2/4/20: 3 days left, this is a better deal than the new IMBD deal for 90 days free of regular. This music HD also works for previous customers as long as you haven’t been a customer in the last year.

I got the 99 cents option for 4 months, which is much better for me with the $5 Chase offer for spending 99 cents.

Stacks with $0.99 90-day Apple Music trial (first time new customer only) and $5 BOA/Chase Offers on Amazon Music spending $0.99 or more, making it a small moneymaker. $0.99 charges immediately to the default Amazon.com payment card, so get that ready first.

Tried the HD version and didn’t notice a difference. Plus, it makes the file sizes huge.

Yeah the difference between high quality MP3 to FLAC is instinguishable to most people in most settings, really something you can only pick up in a quiet environment with very good audio equipment.

I did blind testing with a modest pair of Bose headphones and was able to pick our the flac file 80% of the time- with the ability to switch between tracks instantly, loop back etc- well above chance but still. It’s very, very subtle. Sounds like cymbals and things have a longer, richer clash.

If I can only detect the difference on close controlled listening, how much could I actually be appreciating the better sound in casual listening?

Anyways if you’re curious you can try the test here: http://abx.digitalfeed.net

You need audiophile-grade headphones. I like Sennheiser HD 800 S. You’d also need an amp and possibly a DAC (I don’t).
