Amazon Offering Free Shipping (No Minimum) For The Holidays (Extended Through 1/31/2019)

Update 1/2/19: This has now been extended until January 31st, 2019.

Amazon has announced that shoppers without prime will receive free standard on items shipped by Amazon, with no minimum spend required (add on items excluded). The promotion will be running for all orders arriving in time for Christmas, with no formal cut off date announced. Normally non prime members need to spend at least $25 to receive free shipping. If you’re thinking of making an Amazon purchase this holiday season, read our complete guide to saving money on Amazon first.

Also Bezos, if you’re reading how about a promotion for prime members considering this is usually a benefit of holding prime?

Hmm, why did I waste money on Prime? I think this will be my last year making that mistake.

Because free same day/2 day shipping all year round, random ‘prime only deals’, whole foods discount, and certain digital content (video) for free?

you get 2-day shipping for free, apart from the other Prime goodies. Leave the non-Primes alone 😀

wow. seriously? thats a hilarious comment.

We non-Primes can be pretty hilarious people.

2 days shipping depends on the carrier. UPS still haven’t delivered my packages after 6 days. Amazon credited me $92 plus $15 for the frustration this have caused. They told me I can keep everything I ordered if it’s eventually delivered. Amazon is the best!

Yeah. I tried it for one year because of the Amex offer in 2017-2018 to see what it’s about but since I live in Hawaii no such thing as 2-day shipping. The only difference is that I don’t have to spend a minimum of $25 to get free shipping. Add-on items still require a minimum of $25, GASP. All the other benefits are no longer worth the increased fees.

Yeah I will think about it. Anything you have in mind?

Not “shipped and sold by Amazon”, but “fulfilled and shipped by Amazon”.

Returns aren’t free.

I just placed an order yesterday and was charged shopping. Wonder if I can get it reimbursed

If it hasn’t shipped (and it probably hasn’t) you can cancel the order and re-order with free shipping.

Amazon will do anything if you call they will reimburse or even live chat.

Theres more to Prime than just shipping.

But for many of us the shipping is the only thing we care about. Wish they had a “Prime Essentials” without music / video / Twitch / yada yada yada …

And they would charge you exactly $0.99 less for that.

Brad

Looks like items just need to be shipped by Amazon, not necessarily sold by them.

Good! This would’ve been much less useful otherwise.

Do you really not know why you’re buying Prime? You get free 2-day shipping, not just free super slow shipping. They’ve lowered the $25 minimum to $0 and that is all. (not to mention all the other Prime benefits)

While prime members get faster shipping , they’re still effectively subsidizing the cost here for everyone else. As a prime member who had to pay more this year than last for my membership , I’m pretty annoyed .

Charlie

Thank you for subsidizing me! I tried Prime on a trial basis many years ago, and didn’t think it was good value, so I went back to bunching my orders to exceed $35 so I could get the 10 day free shipping.

This year is the first year I’m thinking about cancelling Prime. I have been doing more local Costco and Google Express this year. Amazon is still good just prime is starting to loose its value with the price increase. Only sad thing I’d hate to give up is Twitch Prime.

Awesome, my prime membership just expired and I won’t renew it (unless Amex has another Amazon offer) so this is a nice surprise!

I will take your question under advisement

I don’t know why prime members are complaining. It’s not like non-prime members will be getting free 2 day shipping.
FYI free shipping for non-prime members takes at least 10 days! This is why I stopped shopping at Amazon.

I want to purchase a $99 item but it will take 10-12 days to be delivered. Why do that when I can buy for the same price at Walmart and get free 2 day shipping?

I have NOT had Prime on a non-trial basis since 2015 when delivery speeds slowed down & prices went up.

Checking my last 7 non-Prime orders with free standard shipping from Amazon in the second half of 2018 (I don’t order that often), my average delivery speed from free standard Amazon shipping is 3.14 days from the date of ordering without adjusting for day of the week, etc. My range in this sample was next day to 6 days after ordering at the slowest.

I made 2 orders with Prime shipping when I had Prime trial in July, and one took 2 days and one took 3 days. This is obviously a crude 2.5 day average sample, whereas with a bigger sample it is probably about 2.2 days based on observed orders made by others with Prime.

Bottom line for my situation: Average speed gain of no more than 1 day by having Prime shipping. So, I am fine with Amazon free ship speeds. I have some concerns about Amazon delivery security though when a recent package ended up as just an empty padded envelope when picked up from an Amaon Locker.

Damn you, add on items.

I signed up for Prime last year because of the Amex offer, but I live in Hawaii and prime shipping is not available here. I do like being able to ship items without a minimum for “free” (not quite free since I paid for prime membership), but that’s about it for me. I just thought I’d try it, but no real benefits because of my location.

Standard shipping = Amazon takes your money and waits 2 weeks before shipping. I avoid buying from them if at all possible.

atexit8
atexit8

It is not as bad as 2 weeks for me.
But a dash cam I bought on 12/27 (Thursday) still has not shipped as of 1/2 (Wednesday) which is 6 days later.
Mind you, I live in NJ where there are 4 or 5 warehouses all within 30 miles of my home.
The games they play!
They must think I am an idiot and thinks that this sort of tactics will make me sign up for Prime. Not a chance.
