American Airlines has announced that the ability to pay using a combination of miles and cash will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Delta & United already have this feature.
American Airlines says loyalty members can use this feature as follows:
- Once logged into the AAdvantage® account, members will select their desired flights with cash.
- During checkout, members will be presented with an optional trip insurance offer.
- After making their trip insurance selection, available cash and miles options will be displayed. Members can use a slider to choose the combination of cash and miles that best fits their preferences.
- Once a selection is made, the cost summary will automatically update to reflect the chosen combination.
- Members can then enter their payment information and complete their booking.
To begin with it will be available on U.S. Itineraries excluding Hawaii & Alaska. It’s also unclear how much miles will be worth when using this slider option and how these tickets will be treated for miles earning and things like upgrades.
