American Airlines Adds Three Partner Airlines To Online Award Booking (Sri Lankan, Qatar, Air Tahiti Nui )

American Airlines has expanded their online award searching and booking. You can now book the following airlines online:

  • Sri Lankan
  • Qatar
  • Air Tahiti Nui

Earlier this year they briefly added Sri Lanka and Qatar (along with Cathay Pacific, Malaysian, S7 & LATAM) only to quickly remove them shortly after. Recently they also added Fiji and Malaysia as well. It looks like these are showing most routes, whereas when they were briefly added before not all routes that were bookable via phone were showing online. As I mentioned last time, some people will actually see this as a devaluation as making these easier to book will mean that competition for award space will increase. Personally I hate dealing with long boring award calls so I see this as a win, but can sympathize with those who have spent time perfecting these award calls and routings.

I still don’t see Qatar in searching for booking flights in aa.com/aadvantage

Now I wish their app would have the capability to search for award flights like other airlines’ apps.

Seems to be the case. I keep searching flights from Hong Kong that BA is showing and the app just errors before it can even do the search.

Same – doesn’t seem the CX search is reliable enough to replace searching through BA and JL.

The title says they’ve added 3 but it lists 5. I don’t think CX should be named. Should it?

You’d think they have to release at least some biz availability

Why does the headline list 6 airlines when only 3 of them were added to online search?

I don’t see LATAM available, at least not to Lima…

DOC…Earlier this year they had added S7 also (in one of those testing glitches), I don’t see it available in yesterday’s roll out. So it seems like more changes are coming to AA portal.

I was looking at that as well. I saw some in Nov-January (like 3 different dates)

Mixed thoughts on this as the extra step required before (searching on BA.com or Quantas.com) was something the masses didn’t understand or utilize.

Personally, I’m really glad that this came about, mainly because of people like you wishing for everyone else not to be able to take advantage of this due to their limited knowledge of the “system”.
