[Expired] American Express Business Gold Rewards Now Offering Up To $1,500 G Suite By Google Cloud Reimbursement Sign Up Bonus

Unfortunately this deal has expired and is no longer available.

Looks like new American Express Business Gold Rewards cardholders have access to a new sign up:

  • Sign up for G Suite by Google Cloud and get Gmail, Docs, Drive, and Calendar for business. Earn dollar-for-dollar statement credits for purchases of G Suite on your Card during your first 3 months of Card Membership up to $1,500 total.

Obviously a great deal if you can make use of the credits, but I suspect that won’t apply to most readers. If you do use G Suite you can actually pre-pay as well  so anybody that uses G Suite should be able to make use of the full $1,500 (even if it does take you forever to get through it).

Seems like they nerfed the offer. Followed the link that G Suite sent advertising the bonus months ago.

“Get G Suite Basic free for 1 year for up to 3 users, as statement credits up to $200.”

Figured I’d chime in with a 20% discount promo on G Suite Basic and Business for one year.

Thought I would add a DP for this. I applied for this card in late January and immediately made a one-time payment of $1,500 into a newly created GSuite account. Got my $1,500 credit a couple days later as expected.

Personally, I have zero use for GSuite so I just made the payment to help hit minimum spend. In late February I cancelled my Gsuite Subscription and requested my remaining balance of $1,495 ($1500 – one month subscription used) refunded. Received a refund to my AMEX Gold last and haven’t seen any indication that the $1,500 GSuite credit from the sign-up offer is going to be reversed.

Thanks for the DP. Did Amex ever reverse the credit? Doesn’t the refund mean you still have $1495 extra MSR needed?

Any update on how the refund affected either the credit or MSR? I’ve gone ahead and put the $1500 charge on the card. If it doesn’t change MSR then its effectively a free 150k MR.

Bump. Would love to see that AmEx didn’t reverse the credit.

Opened this card like 10 days ago but I dont see this under my benefits either.

CSR doesnt seem to have a clue….they keep pointing me to 3x points on advertising if I select that category.

I’m guessing G Suite purchased through squarespace wouldn’t count towards this? Unfortunately, once purchased through a 3rd party like Squarespace, I think you have to continue making purchases through them. No way to extend it via Google directly.

Edit – Scratch that.. Not eligible if you have or have had this card.

Also note that G Suite and Google Compute are *not* in the (imho too short) list of 3x merchants for the “hardware, software, and cloud computing” category. Amazon AWS is another glaring omission. Here’s the current list from Amex’s site:

• Apple
• CDW
• Dell
• HP
• IBM
• Intuit
• Lenovo
• Microsoft
• Newegg
• Oracle
• Rackspace
• Sage Software
• Salesforce.com
• Symantec
• Tiger Direct

Would you happen to know if Google Compute would qualify for 3x if the advertising category is chosen instead? In other words, does Google Cloud Platform code as an AdWords expense for the Amex BGR?

Here’s the † fine print:

“Earn statement credits for 3 months of G Suite, up to $1,500

Earn dollar-for-dollar statement credits for purchases of G Suite on your Card during your first 3 months of Card Membership up to $1,500 total starting from the date your account is approved. Statement Credits will be given in the amount of one or more transactions for the purchase of G Suite. Please allow up to 90 days after a qualifying G Suite purchase is charged to your Card account for the statement credit(s) to be posted to the account. You must be enrolled in G Suite, add your Card to your G Suite billing profile, and use your Card for G Suite purchases during your first 3 months of Card Membership to be eligible. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided by merchant. To earn statement credits, your Card Account must not be canceled or past due at the time of fulfillment of any offers. Qualifying G Suite purchases can be made by the Basic Card Member and any Employee Card Members on a single Card Account, but statement credit(s) will be applied to the Basic Card Member’s account only. Offer only valid for G Suite purchased from Google directly and not valid for any other Google Cloud or Google purchases.”

Would this count toward the MSR?
