[Still DEAD – Update] American Express Hilton Honors Aspire Signup Link with Waived $450 Annual Fee

Update 11/6/19: Deal is still dead. Multiple readers in the comments confirm that this application appears to be going properly for those who applied when it was live, and we should not be hit with any annual fee charge for the first year.

Update: DEAD.

Original Post:

There’s a new link that’s surfaced which is apparently waiving the $450 annual fee on the Hilton Aspire American Express card. These premium cards rarely waive the annual fee first year; you can get a huge value from all the benefits for a full year with no fee.

Direct Link to offer (requires login)

The signup bonus is the same at 150,000 points after $4,000 in spend. Some people are considering signing up even if they get the pop-up (which warns them that they aren’t eligible for the bonus) just the benefits for a full year with no fee.

The fee waiver is not showing on the main application page, only in the Rates & Fees page. Be sure to confirm that you are seeing the $0 fee, and also take screenshots in case you have to fight this one. Hopefully they’ll honor it without issue.

Is anyone taking the risk?

I got the warning, applied anyways and got accepted just now. I did have one amex hilton previously and had a return of > $1,000 but had already gotten the points and got flagged from that i think.

What do you mean by “a return of > $1,000”?

I have a family to feed. I have no choice but to take risks.

Denis

Do you feed them with free Hilton breakfasts?

Hahaha Denis. You made me laugh hard 😂

Yup, every month. I even post the free breakfast videos on YouTube. The curio in St. Louis, Hilton Clearwater beach, bakers Cay in key largo are decent. The Grand Wailea Waldorf in Maui is the best thus far.

How about flip that.

No joke, literally, I had a vasectomy on November 1st this month. It was worth some points towards a future stay and breakfast from the copay.

I see 450 fee both logged in or incognito. Edit: with new link I see 0 fee.

Man! what a dilemma! I don’t have this card but wanting to apply only next month, not now. What to do…??

San

I would advise to apply at the earliest. This may be taken down anytime by Amex.

Danielle
Danielle

Amex is unpredictable these days and change terms arbitrarily. Pass.

El Loco
El Loco

Not when you have a card agreement with your name stating the $0 annual fee first year. Changing it would be a violation of the card act.

Lord Dima

It’s still a PITA to deal with. They sent me a targeted mailed for Delta card stating annual fee waived first year. Applied and promptly got charged an annual fee. Had to fight to create a dispute then wait six weeks for resolution. Then fight again until they acknowledged that it was a “marketing error” – the code in the mailer was not supposed to waive the annual fee but the mailer stated so and they were being super gracious issuing me the credit. *facepalm*

You know Amex has gone overboard when TARGETED mailers terms aren’t being honored without a fight. It’s no just about the RAT team and their mission statement. Amex is swinging that pendulum too far and it’ll be interesting to see the fallout as time goes on. Higher fees, stripping cards of benefits, all while we’re coasting into the unknown fresh off a historical bull market.

Perhaps this IS part of the fallout of losing Costco. It was after all something like 10-20% of their portfolio.

frogger

No it had nothing to do with losing Costco. Their earnings went way up after declining to renew their Costco agreement. This all started when they got a new CEO.

Offer terms state “If we in our sole discretion determine that …; if you cancel or downgrade your account within *12 months* after acquiring it; …, we may not credit the Bonus Points to your account. We may also cancel this Card account and other Card accounts you may have with us.”

If you can’t cancel for 12 months, then you have to pay at least 1 annual fee, no?

JohnFromATL
JohnFromATL

Once the annual fee posts, you have 30 days to cancel for a full refund of the fee.

Thank you for posting. The spend of $4K is almost daunting when I have other bank credit card planned spending that benefit me well, also.

Would be so nice to have those points, that is for sure.

Any idea how long this promo is going to last? My P2 is at 4/24, and is going to apply for CSP at the end of the month… Would like to get this one as well after that.

I have no more information than anyone else but it seems to be a certain link and not advertised so my guess is if you want to do it you should probably get on it now before it gets killed. I obviously could be wrong.

It would also take a while for the amex card to show up on her credit report. So you could get the card today and afaik it wouldnt show up on hte credit report until the first statement.

If you can do the spend, do this one first, and apply for the CSP before the hilton reports to the bureaus.

Amex didn’t pull a CR for this card and I have 4 Amex cards. It’ll still take a period of time before a new card shows on the CR

when you logged in, can you see the card agreement and does it show that the first year’s annual fee is waivered?

YoniPDX

Harold

yes personalsized Card member agreement with CL, last 4 of card number and my name on agreement with date shows $0, then $450.

Approved! I hope I don’t get shut down. I just got another amex card last week and have had the business version of this card for almost a year.

There’s a biz version of this .. hmm Really?!

I would assume Ryan is referring to the $95 Hilton business card, which is similar to the Surpass.

What is this business version you speak of. I want one too

Jared

Just applied and was approved. Got popup about not being eligible for the bonus, but the airline credit/resort reimbursement are worth grabbing this now. Pulled number down instantly and the card member agreement says $0 AF first year, then $450.

YoniPDX

Same here.

Leslie

1) is free night also offered with this deal? 2) How will you use the Airline credit, since GC’s are doable anymore?

YoniPDX

yes, free weekend night, $250 airline for both 2019 and for 2020. Resort credit is card member year.

Airline credit I can use organically, seat upgrades, etc but some work arounds still exist – just not as straight forward as before with GC.

Luke US
Luke US

YoniPDX, Is there any link you could kindly point me to, that describes some of these workarounds? Thank you very much.

YoniPDX

derp report the post from 10.26.2019 “AmEx flight credits: what works now” has a lot of great info with dp – but GC – only a few them Unicorn’s still draw breath last I heard. Depending on your risk level the check request method still works.

I checked my card member agreement online and it definitely shows $0 for the first year annual fee. Looking forward to the $250 flight credits which I’ll use for international bag fees next month, then in 2020 I’ll need to figure out what to do. I’m not sure if the free night showed up for me.

Michael
Michael

My first annual free night code showed up a few months after I opened the account. The second annual code came at the same time of year. So there is definitely a lag.

It’s not like AMEX would ever claw anything back… 🤔
