Our Verdict

Basically an extra 1x point per $1 spent if you spend exactly $7,500. Not as good as the Hilton offer which is an extra 2x points. This will also stack with any category bonuses on individual cards which could make it a good deal for some people. Personally don’t think it makes sense to risk a clawback with American Express if doing manufactured spend but everybody has a different risk tolerance.

William, I got an Amex offer of monthly $10 restaurant credit through 2021 on my Marriot card ($95 annual fee one). Intended to cancel this card in March but in view of this $110 credit, maybe I will consider keeping it for another year.

Similar offers on Delta cards as well. On low AF cards, it’s either $15 or $10 per month.

For Hilton cards, it’s 10k points per $5k spending. Upto 100k points.

I don’t think it is worth it for any AMEX Marriott card as the returns are too insignificant, as well as the Hilton Aspire card.

However, if you have this offer on the Hilton Biz card (as I do) or the Hilton Surpass card, it is definitely worth it to select this option as you may wind up spending $15,000.00 on those cards to obtain a free Hilton night (used to be weekend nights only, but since pandemic, they are good any day of the week up to 12/31/22).

For those enumerated cards above, it may be worth it to spend your way to the free night and the extra points!!! It couldn’t hurt to get extra points if you are going to go for the free night!

I agree that the Marriott Bonvoy card in itself has a lower value than other cards. The AMEX Business Gold cards are a much better deal combined with their Schwab card for effectively a 5% cashback bonus for all of the bonus categories the Marriott card has. However, I always fly Korean Air and it’s still currently the best way to convert points into miles since Chase got dropped a couple of years ago. So I actually spend in categories that only pay 2x points to get my Marriott points as opposed to the 4x points of certain categories where the gold card also gets 4x points. This means my 2x with Marriott is compared to the value of my Sparks card which gives 2% cashback for all general categories and makes the Marriott points “cost” me a penny a piece. Add on this 7500 point matching bonus and it effectively gives me 3x points for general purchases, or a cost of $0.0666/point as opposed to the whole penny. It’s a pretty good deal as long as you have the ability to spam the card with $7500 charges.

Got the spend $20 get $20 at US Restaurants. If Uber Eats codes as restaurant (I think it should?) then this should stack with the Plat/Gold Uber Cash. I’ll get $45 a month at Uber Eats.

Spend $20 or more at U.S. restaurants, earn $20 back once a month, through 2021. Allowed me to add to both Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant and Hilton Amex Aspire.

I don’t have this on my “Bonvoy AmEx” ($95 downgrade from the Brilliant), but I do have another interesting one: Spend $10 or more at U.S. restaurants, earn $10 back once a month, through 2021. Details From the time you enroll through 12/31/21, earn a $10 statement credit after spending $10 or more each month in purchases at U.S. restaurants (including take-out and delivery) on your Card. Earn up to a total of $110 in statement credits. Terms apply. Offer Terms You must first enroll in the offer by adding the offer to your Card. Only purchases made with your enrolled Card are eligible. Offer to enroll is available to existing Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Card Members who are Basic Card Members prior to January 1, 2021. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person–to–person payments, or purchases of other cash equivalents.
