The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • American Express are offering a 50% transfer bonus when you transfer your American Express Membership Rewards points to Plenti. The minimum you can transfer is 500 points and for that you’d receive 750 Plenti points, for a transfer rate of 1:1.5.

plenti points

The Fine Print

  • Valid until December 31st, 2016
  • You can transfer a minimum of 500 points
  • You must transfer in increments of 500 points

Our Verdict

This is the first transfer bonus American Express have offered for Plenti points (you can view all of their past bonuses by clicking here). Plenti points are worth 1¢ when redeeming for merchants within the Plenti coalition loyalty program (e.g Exxon, AT&T and more). This means you can basically get 1.5¢ per point in value if you needed to pay cash for any of these merchants anyway, I personally don’t think that’s a terrible redemption rate but really depends on how highly you value membership rewards. I do think that most of the Plenti partners suck so I won’t be transferring any of my points. What about you? Let me know in the comments.

its not bad. i mean, they work as cash at rite aid and they let you redeem for gift cards with them. also, if you have att and can pay your bill thats like free money. i traded in 2000 mr and got $30 in plenti

I am not sure but I was under the impression that you cant’ redeem Plenti for gift cards at Riteaid

David

Interested in whether or not it’s possible as well. Sets reasonable floor on MR points for time being.

I have tried redeeming for gift cards at Rite Aid and the POS didn’t allow it at multiple locations?

Nick
Nick

This is actually a desirable offer to those living near a Rite-Aid or Macy’s. Plenti points can be used on sale prices, so it’s not hard at all to extract very good value with careful planning. And even on regular prices your MR redemption gets you $7.50 in merchandise for $5, an instant 1/3 off vs. paying in cash.

Yeah, I’ve found the holiday Macy’s One Day Sale where they offer $20 off $50 (40% off on top of existing sale prices) is the best sale of the year and perfect for buying presents. If you combine it with this, you can get $50 of already sale-priced merchandise for $20, either for yourself or as a gift. I know standard department store prices are terrible, but if you know how to work it, you can get stuff cheaper and higher quality than Walmart.

If you have a reasonably priced Exxon / Mobil nearby this is actually a pretty solid offer.

Ours is literally 40 cents/gallon higher with gas stations all around them. How do they stay in business???

Gerald
Gerald

They’re competitively priced near me, but since I’ve been getting Exxon/Mobil gift cards on eBay at effectively 10%+ off, I don’t use my Plenti points there. I do earn minimal points there (1 point per gallon, with an occasional bonus). I don’t think this is a good deal — I value MR points for their transferability to airline programs, and I have a harder time using Plenti points than I do earning them.

Nick
Nick

This is still be a good deal for you! You get $7.50 in gas for $5. If Exxon/Mobil gas using Plenti points costs 40c/gallon more (as you say) and is priced at $3.75/gal you are effectively paying only $2.50/gal which easily beats the $3.35/gal cheaper gas (unless you can save at least 25% on the cheaper gas through a credit card bonus or via a gas gift card purchase, both of which are not likely).

“you are effectively paying only $2.50/gal”

This is only true if you are assuming that MR points are otherwise worth only 1c each. However, for most of us here are getting far more value out of them transferring to airline partners. With this deal, the MR can be worth 1.5c- which is decent. However, in Bryan’s case where Exxon is higher priced, that means the value is down to 1.3 which is far less appealing.

Can plenti points be used to purchase cash equivalents at any of the partners? IE VGC at Rite Aid?

I do not live near any Rite Aids so I am not too familiar with the plenti program however I will be getting my platinum 100k soon and will be vacationing in a town that has a couple of Rite Aid’s in about a month

Might be nice to turn the 100k into $1500

Rite Aid only accept cash for any giftcard.

This is preeeeeetty enticing. I don’t fly much but I drive a lot. With careful planning, I could map out Exxon fill-ups without paying too much over other gas stations.

Has anyone tried to pay their ATT bill with Plenti and then request a refund in the form of a check?

Achanti

I dont think we can over pay ATT bill with Plenti. I paid the amount same as my bill amount.

My AT&T bill is linked to my Plenti card, I get 85 Pts per month.

I guess if I was to pay say $1000 it would credit towards Plenti pts.

Would it be possible to purchase a iPhone with Plenti at AT&T retailer?

I have been buying gallons of milk at RA with Plenti points (3 small ones at home). I will definitely do this offer. Free milk!! Have about 60k MR points from sign up bonus. They charge 2.63/gallon in CT with Plenti card 2.79 gal with Plenti card in NY. I live on the border.

barrytuneup

actually nothing else worth buying at RA. Got about 2k Plenti points last month while buying One vanilla cards with Plenti points deal. Groceries much cheaper on just about everything RA sells. Goes for CVS also.

You can pay AT&T wireless bills with Plenti points at 1c/point, correct?

If so, that’s a pretty good redemption for something I have to pay for anyways!
I just applied for the PRG 40k+25k second year offer. I pay $60/month for cell coverage, but I could transfer those 40k MR points to 60k Plenti points and get 10 months of free cell coverage ($600 value), plus 3x $100 airline credits (Amazon GC) and another 25,000 MR points, all for one $195 annual fee… At minimum, that’s $955 value for 1 hard pull and 4k min spend – and that’s if I just value those 25k MR at 1c/point.

Not. Bad.

Any luck using the plenti points to buy EXXON gift cards at gas stations?

This is the best news forme after I came back from my three weeks vacation. My wife spent thousands each year at Macys. I just redeem 9000 plenti points yesterday at Macys.com.

Austin if your bill is that high at AT&T might want to check a biz acct at Harbor Mobile for AT&T. I have an acct through them with T-Mobile (legacy now as they changed to AT&T) $53 all in for unlimited everything.

Does anyone know if a transfer to Plenti is instant?

Chuck

I think it is

This actually seems like an awesome deal presuming you can get to a gas station or Rite Aid that takes them. MR points seem in general overvalued– hard to get more than 1cpp under normal circumstances unless you are flying all the time and can find award available from the right MR transfer partners (not all of us churners take a flight every week).

1.5cpp and easily redeemable? I will take it. Sitting on over 130K MR points between wife and I. I was about to do the whole Iberia bonus, then transfer to BA, then make a household account, hope that some day I can fit in vacations that line up with BA network availability (and avoiding their crazy taxes on BA flights).

What a hassle! I’ll take free gas for the next 2 years, thank you very much AmEx.

The one Mobil station that I’ve tried so far said that you need to come inside
to have them apply points from Plenti. It didn’t work at pump.
Hoping other Mobil stations work w/o having to go in.

MJG
MJG

Just FYI, I have now redeemed Plenti points at the pump at 3 different Mobile stations across IL. Very easy– you can type in your number and zip, scan in the keychain card, or swipe the full sized card. You do have to swipe a card as well but it does not get charged if you use the Plenti points. I also seem to get credited back random amounts of Plenti points for reasons I don’t understand. So my receipt will say “Used 2245 Plenti points for $22.45 of fuel. Earned 4 Plenti points.” Max redemption for gas is $25 each time, but if you had a bigger tank you could just run multiple $25 transactions.

I also ordered some random supplies from RiteAid online (got enough to get free shipping, as there are no RiteAids in the Chicago area) entirely with Plenti points. The products they have available for delivery aren’t great, but still an easy way to stock up on toiletries and the like even if you don’t live near a RiteAid.

All in all super pleased with this redemption option.
