American Express No Longer Offering Free FICO Scores [Available Again]

Update: Looks like these scores are showing up as normal again.

American Express is no longer offering cardholders free FICO scores. Unfortunately cardholders are now offered access to American Express MyCredit Guide instead. American Express MyCredit Guide was launched in May 2018 and is offered to all consumers, even if they don’t have an American express card. The score they provide is VantageScore 3.0 and is powered by TransUnion credit reports. VantageScore isn’t as useful as most lenders use FICO scores to determine credit eligibility. American Express first started offering cardholders free FICO scores in 2014 in a trial program, before it was widely rolled out in 2015.

It looks like they are just hiding it – the FICO score 8 (the FICO score that used to get pulled up from the link on the homepage) is still available under the “Account Services” tab – scroll most of the way down, to the bottom of the “Personal Details” pane, “View FICO score” link brings you to *real* FICO score page!

FICO SORE’S VALUE = 0
AMERICAN EXPRESS is influenced by how well or poorly their clients are
treated by “sub-contractors”, such as Experian and I can say did the right
thing by switching to TransUnion…WE HAD THE UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE
OF HAVING TO DEAL WITH ONE OF EXPERIAN’S MISTAKES BUT EVEN WORSE
BY ONE OF THEIR SUPERVISORS WHO MADE A MISTAKE ON OUR CREDIT
REPORT BY INCLUDING SOMEONE ELSE’S INFORMATION ON OUR AMEX STATEMENT AND BECAME ANGRY AND YELLED AT US FOR ASKING THEM TO
CORRECT THEIR ERROR ON OUR ACCOUNT…I AM REASONABLY SURE THAT
WE WERE NOT THE ONLY AMEX CLIENTS WHO WERE MIS TREATED BY
EXPERIAN. AMEX PUTS THEIR CLIENTS FIRST AND WHY WE HAVE BEEN WITH
AMEX 28 YEARS AND OUR ENTIRE FAMILY AND MY PREVIOUS EMPLOYER.

I don’t know about anybody else, but my Fico score info on my Amex page seems to still be the same: Fico 8 from Experian.

IT IS NOT SURPRISING, EXPERIAN HAS NEVER BEEN KNOWN TO “GET AHEAD
OF ISSUES BEFORE THEY BECOME SERIOUS…THE BANK THAT I WORKED WITH
DID THE SAME THING,,,MY PERSONAL WORKING KNOWLEDGE WITH EXPERIAN
WAS JUST OK, NOT STELLAR …THIS COMPANY IS NOT CUSTOMER-FRIENDLY
AND I AM PLEASED WITH AMEX’S decision to change to TransUnion…

A re-check today shows the MyCredit Guide (VantageScore) service link on my home account page reverted back to “View FICO Score” as it was before.

Based on reading all the comments on this thread (see Shawn’s especially on Dec 13 at 3:48 pm) as well as the comments on a sister thread at myFICO….

https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Understanding-FICO-Scoring/AmX-No-Longer-Providing-Free-Monthly-FICO-Scores/td-p/5423528

… it appears as though the Experian FICO 8 is still being provided, though the link may have been moved for some people.

Is that right? Do we have any definite reason at this point to think otherwise? If so, could the initial post by WC be softened so that we avoid accidentally spreading misinformation?

American Express never sent me any information stating what you are saying. In fact, I am still using the FICO score service and the vantage score service they offer.

It is still available on the website but is hidden. After a discussion with rep, go to account services and find personal details. The FICO link is then displayed in the card management tab. No idea how long it will be there but as far as anyone can tell, it has just been moved off of the home page so they can get you to sign up for some other BS FAKO.

Thank you, Shawn! That worked for me. If you have an AU (authorized user) account selected at the top, the FICO link doesn’t show up. Select a card that you’re the primary and refresh, and the link appears.
