American Express Platinum Cardholders Getting $35 Uber Credit on their Cancelled Cards

Update 12/1/20: Same thing happening again for 2020 with $35 being sent out to cancelled cards. The credit will probably be pulled back in a few days, same as last time, given that the info is already circulating. You’ll want to use this up while you can.

Update 12/9/19: Some on r/churning are reporting their credits have now been clawed back. Others are still seeing their credit intact.

Original Post:

The American Express Platinum card offers a $15 monthly Uber credit; during the month of December the credit is bumped up to $35. Those who have cancelled their Platinum cards during 2019 are seeing today the $35 credit pop up, despite the fact that they have not been getting these credits after the cancellation.

Apparently, the $35 credit is coded separately and goes out to everyone who was a Platinum cardholder during the year. It may or may not be intentional, but regardless, it’s useful to know and not let the credit go to waste.

Say I have a gift card balance of $50 and $35 Amex credit. Will they clawback from $50 credit if I use $35 Amex monthly credit before they clawback ?

Similar: my Hilton aspire card got an unexpected “Hilton resort credit” that corresponded with an amount I spent (and was already credited) a few months ago. I’m assuming it will be clawed back.

That would be nice if they do.
I would have no use for my 2 Gold and Schwab Platinum next year, otherwise. Just going to stick with the Hilton Aspire.

I didn’t even know about the extra $20 in december and thought it was a glitch until seeing this thread. Excellent as I forgot to pack my food for work today. I swear, with all the perks these days from credit card companies trying to earn your business, if you’re not taking full advantage then you’re basically leaving money on the table!

Hmmm. After my credit was clawed back. I can no longer make purchase from Uber Eats using any credit cards even including valid ones. I contact the customer support and I was told that my account was flagged not to make purchase. It was removed once based on the customer support. But I still get the error for a second time. No one will help this time and I do not want to bother with it any more. I used the $15 credit from my cancelled card. Never used $35 credit though.

People complain about RAT team but I would fire their business group who writes all these business specifications. So many loopholes in the application. Sad that Amex has to hire a RAT team to make up for their incompetent business group.
Why do they let customers enter their system and then clawback only to make the customers unhappy.
