The Offer
- Some American Express members are being targeted for a 30% transfer bonus to Marriott. Normally you can transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,000 Marriott points. Under this promotion you’d receive 1,300 Marriott points.
Our Verdict
A 40% transfer bonus just ended and we saw a 50% transfer bonus last year, before that it was always transfer bonuses to SPG for 50% as well:
- October 23 – November 17th, 2016: 50% bonus
- October 12th – October 31st, 2015: 50% bonus
- October 16th – November 30th, 2014: 50% bonus
Even at 50% this is a bad deal in my opinion as Membership Rewards points are so much more valuable than Marriott. Because of that I wouldn’t recommend transferring. As always a full list of American Express transfer bonuses can be viewed here.

Amex is offering a 40% transfer bonus to Hilton also, which allowed me to transfer 10,000 MR points to Hilton now. I value MR points at 0.6-1 cent per point (cash value), so the transfer bonus is good for me.

In theory, the 50% bonus can be relatively valueable if you are trying to top off an airline point system that marriott transfers to and amex doesn’t Even then though it would have to be a specific case. I can’t imagine doing the 30% transfer bonus.

People who know how to squeeze value out of Marriott Points and not redeem them for 0.6/0.7 cents.
