American Express Will Add A Minimum Order Size To ShopRunner Benefit

One of the benefits of having an American Express credit card is that you can get free access to ShopRunner (normal price is $79 annually), which gives you free two day shipping at a number of different merchants and also free return shipping on eligible items. This was a great benefit as it meant you could purchase a lot of low cost items and still get free shipping (a lot of sites require you to order $50+ to get free shipping directly from them or flat out don’t offer free shipping).

Unfortunately people have received the following e-mail:

american express shoprunner

So basically starting May 1st, 2015 some merchants that participate in ShopRunner will require a minimum order size to get free shipping. It would be nice to have a bit more information (e.g what merchants will require a minimum order size, what will the minimum order size be? etc) but it’s never nice to have benefits downgraded like this.

Thanks to all the readers who let me know about this one (Paul & KB)

not sure if the shoprunner is offered on all AMEX cards or just certain cards/biz cards etc.

or if you just enroll in it with your very first AMEX. I signed up for my first AMEX last year, which happened to be a business card and have been using shoprunner since then. the only thing I use it for is Dominos delivery which already has a min, atleast in my area/stores (sucks when the 50% off online order deal comes lol.)

anyways, is it worth calling/talking to AMEX to see if they can offer some compensation in lieu of this benefit changing? 🙂 … having NEVER asked for any retention or compensation offers, what can I reasonably except on my AMEX SimplyCash Biz card (thru which I initially enrolled @ SR)
