Amex Makes Bonus Points Visible in Transaction History

American Express has rolled out an improved Transaction History interface where the breakdown of bonus points earning is visible throughout the transaction history. This only shows on personal Membership Rewards cards, not on business cards and not on other points currencies.

Any transaction from prior statements (‘Current Statement’ and before) will show clearly in the transaction history.

For transactions in Recent Activity, the bonus points information does not show. HOWEVER, there is a trick to get it to show. Go to Recent Activity and select any Date Range option at the bottom. That will get the bonus points information to show, even for transactions in Recent Activity. Note, there is still a few day delay.

Figuring out how transactions code with Amex is especially important being that points are awarded with a statement delay – it could be almost two months until you find out whether a given purchase qualified for bonus points. Utilizing this trick, it’ll take just a few days to find out.

Found any good data points on which purchases trigger a bonus category? Please share them in the comments on our Payments Workshop.

It still doesn’t show on my recent activity, only current statement and previous statement.

“This only shows on personal Membership Rewards cards”.

I don’t think this true. I have the AMEX Hilton Surpass (just transitioned to the Ascend, I suppose), and I can see my bonus points in the transaction history section. You pull up the transaction history for a period other than ‘Recent Activity’, and then search for ‘points’. In the resulting window, at the bottom of the screen, you see a section entitled Honors Points, and on the left you can view ‘summary’ or ‘bonus details’. Click on the latter, and you see the bonus points details of each transaction.

I didn’t see a 2X next to my Uber purchases. Is this normal?

Same here – I can only see it in the MR history.

I get this detail for my Personal Platinum card with airline transactions, though not my Ameriprise Gold card for the 2x points on restaurants (even on transactions that did earn them).

Still doesn’t seem to show when you’ve used an offer. The “Savings” tab notes when you’ve saved cash, but it doesn’t say that you earned 5000 MR points. So annoying if you’re wanting to confirm some offer has posted.

Thats actually quite an important feature that Amex doesnt have. You can only see the $ saved from the Amex offers, but not the MR offers. So when I evaluate whether certain MR earning cards are worth keeping it’s quite difficult to figure out how many MR points I earned.

Hmm. I’ve already known this for at least 5 months, but I didn’t think it was newsworthy…I guess I should have posted about it after all? :/

altho its better than nothing, its not newsworthy because its not at the chase level of detail yet per transaction on the activity screen. the bonus point logo has a delay of a few days and its not even 100% complete. but one thing i fukn HATE about chase is the 90 day history limit on every CC account. fuck that. amex goes way way back but i want to see the ultra detail on the bonus cats per transaction. hope to see that soon.

They should do this for the cash cards,,, they really suck at transparency and the delay is inexcusable.

The way Amex manages its cash cards is disgraceful.
