At the beginning of July, Amex simplified how they calculate the dates for the reward years on all of the Blue Cash cards. Instead of describing what used to be, let’s just review how it is now:
- Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred cards now go with the calendar year. These cards have a $6,000 maximum to earn bonus grocery rewards, and the cap is now calculated from January 1 through December 31.
- Old Blue Cash goes with your anniversary date. This card has a $50,000 cap on bonus earning at gas, grocery, and drugstore. If you were approved for the card on April 8, 2009, your reward year will always be April 8 through April 7 of the following year. Spend done on April 8 and onward will begin counting toward the $6,500 initial spend threshold. (See old information here. Some of it might still apply.)
Amex now clearly shows the exact date of your cardmember year for OBC cards within the login.
Now, if only they showed clearly how far along your $50k you are…
