[Expired] Amex Offer: $50 off $100 on Groceries with Shipt.com [Targeted] [Half Priced Membership Today Only]

This deal has expired and is unfortunately no longer available. Never miss another deal again by signing up for free and instant notifications of new posts.

Update 01/06/18: Offer is back again and valid until February 3rd, 2018. Hat tip to Frequent Miler.

The Offer

Some people are seeing this targeted Amex Offer in their logins:

Shipt is a grocery delivery service which has a $14 monthly membership fee or yearly membership fee of $99. You can also get a free two week trial.

The Fine Print

  • Valid through 11/1/17 February 3rd, 2018
  • $100 spend can be done in a single transaction or combined across multiple transactions
  • Online or mobile app

Our Verdict

Getting $50 off $100 on groceries is an excellent opportunity. I find it difficult getting used to new services like this, and I probably wouldn’t bother for a single $50 savings (unless I was considering switching to them permanently), but if someone got this offer on a bunch of Amex cards it could amount to huge savings.

Either use up all your offers during the two-week trial period or pay for the monthly membership for however long it takes you to use them up.  Membership fees should also count toward $100 threshold for Amex credit.

Also, look around for promo codes to save on your first order/orders. I see mention of a promo codes: SAVE25 to get $25 off your first order or $25FREENOW to get $15 off first order and $10 off second.

Doc, I got it in several cards. But, shipt website says their prices are usually higher than they grocery store prices. So I am not sure if it is worth it to buy stuff that is priced 25 to 30 % higher for a 50% discount. Net savings may not be much. Anyone has experience with shipt here.

My experience is that Shipt pricing is about 15% higher than store pricing. I like the service and have used it twice — once in the free trial with an initial coupon, and then after a subsequent coupon I got when I asked to end the trial. With discounts it is more pleasant and less expensive than a grocery store run.

Their prices are marked up between 15% and 20% on each item according to some past receipts. This is in Austin, TX.

Not a ton of experience, but prices are closer to 10-20% markup. The cold brew coffee I drink in store, for instance, is $2.12 and $2.25 in the app. The pasta sauce I get is around 20% markup I think. So the math can make sense, part of the problem is the free membership is only for 2 weeks. So you gotta plan wisely how to speculatively order a few N x $100 of non perishable groceries, or else the annual fee doesn’t really make it worthwhile.

I’d say treat it more like a 20-30% off $100 coupon that comes with free grocery delivery. Def not 50% off, but not a bad deal. Way easier to find reasonable deals on shipt than boxed (excluding boxed GCs of course).

I was thinking about trying this out. Does this code as groceries? I’m not sure if it would appear as the grocery store or as shipt?

Codes as grocery. I’ve been using them for about 2 years. They started in the city I live in.

Not in Seattle or south Orange County. It seems like their coverage is limited.

Electroman

Yes, of course. Amazingly, there’s coverage where I live, in Milwaukee. That’s incredible that it’s not in the much larger markets you mention.

This is an absolutely amazing deal if ABC Fine Wine and Spirits is one of your area stores. Prices are exactly the same as in store (can be a tiny bit higher than Total Wine) and delivery fee for me was $7.00 for a big order.

Plus, they work with Publix in my area and the prices are exactly the same as in store.

Does Shipt code as grocery to double dip on the 1,500 point amex grocery offer?

Electroman

They code as grocery, so I think that should work.

I am 0/15. I wonder if it is targeted by address/zip code. Shipt.com says that they do not cover my zipcode, but a zipcode about 10 minutes away plus my work zipcode are covered. I would like to use it, but I was not targeted.

Check your OBC cards. That was the only card that was targeted for me.

I placed a $106 order with ABC Liquors in the Tampa Bay area. This triggered the Shipt Amex offer but did not trigger the 1500 MR back on a $100 supermarket purchase.

It would help if everyone would list Amex cards they find offers on…
Doc if u get a chance can u make a list of Amex cards with abbreviations we can reference?

Thx!

Got it on my gold, everyday, everyday cash, everyday preferred

Neither of the promo codes worked for me. It work for you guys?

I get the error “Sorry, we can’t seem to find that one

Please double check your code and keep in mind that they are case sensitive”

I just placed my first order. I saw some items that were marked up a lot, some a little, and some not at all.

I purchased the half-price annual membership, since I’m disabled and getting groceries can be difficult. However, there was no place to add a promo code. My guess is you can get the $25 off or the half-price membership, but not both. I might try to get a second membership, using the two-week free trial, so I can use the $$25 off code. (I have the rebate offer on 3 Amex cards.)

Is it possible to browse prices on shipt, without first joining? They partner with Meijer in my area, but I cannot seem to browse their website without first creating an account and signing up. Any tips?

Jedi

Sign up for annual membership, which gives you two week free trial. I did not see any other way. You get Mperks deals too.

This works better than imagined. Shipt pricing is pretty close to Meier pricing and sometimes the same. Free delivery with tip on $35 orders nice and have so many Amex offers, the $50 annual membership more like $25 and can just just multiple Amex offers until expire. I would actually use this after Amex offer since one year membership as convenience to shop for some things from home and $35 is easy to hit.

The family loved the frozen, wild shrimp we had, order some more at basically 50% off! The pricing was only 6-7% higher, and delivered. Beef was same price, even get sale price.

Grace
Grace

I was just wondering what area everyone is in?

I saw a lot of messages saying that if you choose the items that are on sale, you can get some pretty good deals or at least the same price as going in store. But all the on sale items I am interested in are still marked up 20~50% (except for broccoli 99 cents…) I’m in Chicago suburbs using it for Meijer. Many on sale items on Shipt are also on sale at Meijer the same time, so I consider Shipt pretty expensive. (can easily compare on Meijer.com)

If it weren’t the $49 membership offer, the AMEX $50 credit, and $25 credit toward first purchase, I would think this is 100% not worth it especially when I’m just 7 mins away from Meijer. I’ll share any tips when I find out a better way to shop on Shipt.

Grace
Grace

Actually, I just found some things marked up only 10~15%…

Dima

My offer shows expiration 3/3 and half off Shipt membership shows 1/8 expiration, not today…

Ellie
Ellie

Curious what people would consider a decent tip on a $35 order?

RAM

To me it really depends on the items! It sound to me differently if I order just one easy item worth $35 or bunch of smaller $2-$3 that totals to $35
