Our Verdict
Wow, this is a nice offer. I’m guessing it’s is only showing for those in the Kroger footprint. Not sure how this works for using at other stores within the Kroger family.
The wording of the offer indicates this can be used across multiple separate transactions. Max this out with $200 in purchases.

Anyone tried “Kroger family” stores such as Fry’s, Fred Meyer, Mariano’s, Smith’s, Food 4 Less, QFC, Roundy’s or Harris Teeter?
Any one tried purchasing gift card?
I bought $200 worth of various physical gift cards, plus a $1.19 chocolate, and I didn’t receive the credit.
Any updates since then? Did you get anything in the end?
Got it on my BCP, which is surprising since they already give 6% CB at grocery stores. Nice deal.
I did get this offer. Kind of ironic though after reading a Reddit thread in the town where I live about Kroger workers being severely underpaid (they are offering $11.40/hour when every other grocery store in town is offering at least $15/her). Because of this there is a severe worker shortage and lines at the checkout are ridiculously wrong. I don’t normally shop at Kroger but I will for this deal. I will just make to sure to use self check out and go early in the morning.
I believe this is because they are Union and their hands get tied on a lot of things

The T&C says “Excludes physical gift cards “, but I am curious that does Amex has the ability to differentiate which money is from physical GC purchase if we mix physical GC and other groceries in an in-store purchase? Does anyone have the DP?

I have purchased a 500 visa gift card along with other groceries at local grocery store using Amex BCP. That transaction along with all other transactions made that day at other stores also are not showing any rewards for me. Probably that $ 500 + purchase might have triggered something in their backend. May be if I bought a smaller card, it might have gone unnoticed. Who spends $500 in actual groceries at grocery store 🙂
I buy a ton of GC at Kroger (for the fuel points). Usually with BCP or Gold. Have never had an issue. I make sure to get 2-3 grocery items too so it’s not a $150.00 even receipt showing one item purchased.
It might because for previous amex grocery deal, the term did not exclude gift card, but this time is different, it clearly said gift card is excluded. So have you purchased gc and received cashback for this offer?
Amex get L3 data. They can see the line items of what you purchased.

so I guess other branded GC such as Amazon GC, are also excluded, right? I think Visa, Master and Kroger GC would definitely be excluded from the cashback.

I made 3 separate transactions at a Kroger store for a total of $200 worth of gift cards. I received an email after each transaction saying that I used the Amex Offer at Kroger.
0-3 on my cards. And I literally live 2 blocks away from both a Kroger AND their Headquarters lol

Same for me as well. Very recent Kroger spend on the card i got this offer. So seems to be targeted to cards with recent in store Kroger spend.
I’ve used the Amex 3x at Kroger over the past month, I do not have this offer.

I live in Kroger footprint and P1 and P2 more than 10+ CCs but none of the card have this offer … it looks like highly targeted

Sometimes if I wait a day, the offers will show up. I think Amex and Kroger are just trying to torture me. Or maybe they know that I am going to spend 1000 bucks a month there anyway. 😆
