Our Verdict
Interesting to see an Amex offer specifically on gift cards. $5 off $75 is very low and probably won’t interest most people.
To maximize, you’d have to buy a $50 gift card and a $25 gift card with each Amex card you want to use since they don’t sell $75 denominations. Or buy $100 card if you find that easier.
These gift cards are processed through Amex themselves, exactly the same as online Amex gift card purchases.
This means a bunch of things:
- There’s a $1.95 shipping fee.
- You might be able to find free shipping codes which work on Amex gift cards, and these might work on Hilton gift cards too. Let us know if you get something to work and we’ll add it in here.
- If you have the free shipping plan for Amex gift cards, you’ll get free shipping here too.
- You can signup for a free shipping plan for $99 per year.
- You can signup for a free 3-month trial of free shipping if you never did that before. Just remember to cancel.
- The portals typically payout on Hilton gift cards (top rate is 1.5%); however, right now all the Hilton links on the portals are erroring out. I assume they were pulled specifically for this promo. I’d try going through the regular portal link then going to the correct URL (americanexpress.com/hiltongiftcard) and hoping for the best, but let’s assume it won’t work.
