Even some inexpensive routes saw discounting. Usually, 800 points is the minimum redemption, but I observed 660 during this sale. There were some true deals to be had for those who could make it work.

Small discount on the fare (~5-10%) if you want to buying points to redeem. However, like others point out, you have until 25th to book and the Sept 30th to travel. Note the blackout dates: Sept 2 and 5. You can travel on these dates but it will return normal point fares.

Amtrak could be amazing, but the govt tries to run it as a for profit business. They ruined it.

It’s too expensive and not reliable at all. The long distance trains are late to super late 98% of the time. Amtrak is great in big cities for short distances.

Yeah, I’ve rode on the NEC and Acela (NYC to DC) a few times and they’ve been pretty good. Took another trip this year hoping to get on one of the new Acela trains but they’ve apparently been delayed a bit to next year. I do hear issues with a lot of the other lines though. Not enough trains, arrive/departure times always at weird hours, or constant delays.

I passed it on to my friend who uses it in the NEC. Keystone wasn’t even excluded like it is from many promos. I think most people here are focused on air miles. And there’s no amtrak credit card right now (that you an apply for) still.
