Our Verdict

Keep in mind that American Express and Chase both have Apple Pay promotions that you could stack this with. Most interesting would be boxed as there is also an American Express offer for $20/2,000 points back when you spend $75. Key is whether this is actually restricted to first time users, if so it’s not very good as the standard referral bonus is $15 off $60.

I’m a new Boxed user. I couldn’t combine the 1st time user $15 off with the Apple Pay–error message of only being able to use one promo code. Not sure if the Amex promo will stack with the Apple Pay because there’s a note on the Amex saying it may not apply if payment is made via a wallet.

I am still confused how the heck this works. When I check out no discount is showing up — I assume it’s a statement credit ? Which means that I still need to spend $108.75, right?

108.75-$15 referral credit = $93.75

93.75 minus Apple Pay 20% off = $75

$75 – $20 Amex offer = $55.

Is this math accurate for all the pros out there?

Yes. No discount at all during check out. I’m also very confused.

I must be an idiot because when I go to boxed on my phone it does not give me apple pay as a checkout option. But BoxedAAA code gives same discount so whatever.

How is the discount (ex Boxed) given? At checkout or a statement credit later? I want to try Boxed with AMEX card but I want to know if the “first order” restriction applies.

I’ve also got a 5X MR bonus email from boxed. Might be interesting to stack these two together.

Boxed has previously been strict with first time use (Could not combine Drop with Amex, as an example). Points post, then clawback.

Umm so how exactly do you use a mobile wallet for an online/in-app purchase?!

It’s an option at checkout. I use AP routinely for Panera App and I have for jet.com as well.

Is the boxed one first time users to boxed or AP on boxed?

If you have an iPhone, there’s an option to use Apple Pay at checkout. You just tap it and the system prompts you for your fingerprint.

Does Apple Pay properly trigger Amex offer?

Why can’t you just use referral code in the app and stack that with Amex offer AND. Apple Pay?

It definitely should.

“Key is whether this is actually restricted to first time users, if so it’s not very good as the standard referral bonus is $15 off $60.”

If anyone can confirm this as a new user, it’d be helpful. Would love to stack with the AMEX offer but not first order (though first Apple Pay use for Boxed). I don’t see any indicated discount all the way up until pressing “pay” in the Boxed app using Apple Pay. Would there be some sort of indication of a discount or is the Apple Pay discount something that would only show up post-payment?
