[Expired] Apply for a new Target REDcard Debit/Credit and Get $25 off $25 Shopping Trip (1/19-2/2)

Update 2/19/20: Deal is back and valid 2/16/20 – 3/1/20. (Hat tip reader ieatdogfood)

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Get a coupon for $25 off a $25 qualifying purchase when you are approved for a debit or credit REDcard in-stores and at Target.com, valid from January 19th through February 2nd.

Our Verdict

$25 off $25 isn’t a bad deal, though we’ve seen better; previous offers can be viewed hereGo through Swagbucks for an additional $4 back. There’s no hard pull for the debit card.

Hat tip to reader GNE

It’s one per SSN.

I’ve signed up and closed this account twice now, ill try again but they can do MUCH better….. holding out for a minimum the 40/50$ off 100$ deal instead because lets be honest….who can walk into a target and ONLY spend $25 lol

taddy
taddy

I can (walk into a target and only spend $25).

I actually had a hard time finding $40 of stuff when the previous offer happened (and I was lucky enough that they put 2 in my letter), so I had hubby come along both times and put in some stuff he wanted.

Brandon Taft Let us know if you can sign up or if it’s one per SSN. I’ve also signed up twice before and will give it another try. Their terms do not state it’s one per SSN.

I still have the debit card (I should cancel it) and tried for a different debit card but was turned down due to having one already issued by my SSN. I’ll cancel it and try again.

Ok, I see. No you can’t have 2 cards at once. I just cancelled mine and will reapply next week.

No waiting among the apps?

so on dec 7 I closed my account to take advantage of one of these deals. On dec 8 I applied and was rejected for having an existing account. Today I was successful..so I guess the moral of the story is to wait at least 24 hours before applying after closing.

Seems to be available again, 2/16/20-2/29/20. Coupon valid through 4/4/20.

If you close your account, you can open a new one again in two days (not sure if exactly 48 hours or less). Happy churning.

I’ve opened successfully and closed twice

I’ve done it half a dozen times already (if you time it right, you can do it twice within one promotion which usually lasts 2 weeks). The only PITA part is that you must call in to cancel and make up an excuse to close. They are pushy to keep it open.

Was there any confirmation that it was closed? The “manage red card” website still shows my old card when I log in.

ieatdogfood

CSR said no confirmation except a physical mailer upon request, IIRC. I trusted their word and so far so good. I have never created a log in or registered my card online, only activated it to use it so I can’t give any insight via Manage Redcard.

ieatdogfood thanks for all the helpful info given by ya in this thread – appreciate it as a total target noob myself 😉

My question: what do You do to cancel the card (after you used the promo) – just call in or is there a better way?

ieatdogfood
ieatdogfood

No problem, I feel like I’ve gotten this down to a science so I’m trying to share the wealth. I’m actually tired of trying to find the best deal at target to maximize the coupon lol.

Call the number on the back of the card to close it. It is the exact same process as if it was a credit card. And also as far as I know, you can close the card even before you even use the coupon (it’s a physical coupon with a unique barcode and promo code). Be aware, the only way to get free shipping online is by paying with redcard but I believe you can do free pickup without it.

Thanks for you answer ieatdogfood
Signed up, but got the 7-10 days message. Prob just a verification issue, will call ‘New Member CSR’ tomorrow to find out.

In reagards to maximize coupon:
When I had a larger Target GC before, I actually bought an item online that was 100% off via rebatekey. No idea if sth like this would work here, but maybe worth looking into with a higher $$ future offer.
Fyi, for this $25 off, I’m planing to just buy groceries or sth. in store… 🙂

Deal is back FYI.

So I am a little annoyed. I got all the way through the app for the debit card. Verified and linked my checking account and even created a PIN for the debit card. Then…..they need to review my app over the next 7-10 business days?? Anyone else have this issue? Should I call them?

LaHossBoss
LaHossBoss

So I called ‘New Account Services’ and looks like they just needed to take an extra step to basically reverify the verification I did during the online app. Almost thought it was because I previously had the prepaid Red Card, but that has been discontinued for years now, so it shouldn’t be considered an ‘open account’. Anyway, now all approved, will still get the 25 off 25, but I’m thinking probs no-go on the SBs, but we will see! It was a newer address I used since I travel for work. I need to just stick to using my actual permanent address and then calling in to change it right after approval to avoid these issues. I hope this helps someone!

Not going for this deal, but will likely get the credit version when a better deal comes around. I already have the debit version. Will I have to cancel that? (I wouldn’t think so but this “one per SSN” stuff in the comments is concerning.)

B

if you want to save the hard pull, close the debit and open a new debit ( after 48 hrs)

GengisKhan

Why would you burn a hard pull for just $25? I think the ‘one per SSN’ posters are mistaken.

raekwon
raekwon

I was looking at getting this card anyway once a better deal comes around. Literally said “not going for this deal.” 😂

Does the 25 off 25 work on 3rd P GCs?

B

No. These coupons exclude the following

Excludes alcohol, Apple products, Bose, CVS clinic & pharmacy, dairy
milk, DSLR cameras & lenses, Elf on the Shelf, gift cards, Google
products, GoPro, LEGO, mobile contracts, prepaid cards, Sonos, Target
Optical, Tylenol pain relief, and Weber

A clarification on the title, it isn’t the applying that gets you $25 off $25 but the approval. I opened the post thinking that if I applied and was denied (because all credit reports are frozen) I’d still be able to get $25 off $25.

Is there a credit check for the debit card application process? Not clear from what I read.

Not a frequent Target shopper, thus, usually ignore their marketing promos.

Update: Answer is no. (HT to Upgraded Points)

BTW, thanks for the post!

It does mention twice in the dwbit card app they *may* pull credit reports, but my best guess would be that is more geared rowards the CC.

Debit card version has pulled EWS for me before but not sensitive.

There’s also a 400SB offer on Swagbucks for opening a new Redcard (Debit OR Credit) which can stack for $29 profit.
