Our Verdict

Some things to note:

The nice thing about these offers is that there is no minimum spend requirement. It’s also nice that it isn’t issued by one of the major card issuers. I will be adding this bonus to our best credit card bonuses. Avianca has short haul domestic flights starting at 7,500 miles. You can view the full award chart by clicking here.

Not churnable* in a traditional sense. Opened and closed a 60k Vuela card last year (July/August) and received bonus; still unable to apply for a new one as of today.

*Unsure if there exist other DPs that run counter to mine.

Thanks Uncivil_Engineer.

Finally a DP for applying for a 2nd card after 6 months. There do not exist any DPs that run counter to yours.

Opened the card last summer, closed a few days after the bonus has posted (similar timeline to Uncivil_Engineer) and also still unable to apply….

Got a different (worse?) kind of response.

“The application _____ has been successfully submitted.
We are unable to approve your application.
What’s Next?
In the next 7-10 days you will receive in your mailbox specific information about the decision.”

Opened my last one in January 2017 and closed it in early December.

applied and got the message “We are unable to approve your application.” curious to see what the reason will be.

I called in and got the too much obligation to income ratio reason… obviously I’m lol/24 and have a total credit limit 4 times my annual salary… will try again next year when my pay goes up haha.

Getting the final approval for this card was a pain! I initially uploaded my last pay stub. Then they mail me a letter asking for my last two pay stubs and a letter of employment from my employer. I uploaded the two pay stubs but not the letter and in the end wasn’t approved. I wasn’t about to ask my employer for a letter just so I could get a credit card.

They wanted that and more from me. I uploaded some stuff they asked for, never heard from them. They pulled EQ for me so maybe I’ll try them again.

Did you get the bonus?
Originally when you applied, did you create an Avianca account number and enter it in the application or did you leave that field blank and let them create an Avianca number for you?

Says 20,000 and 40,000 respectively.

Only for 4 countries for redeeming for gift cards.

Have tried to apply multiple times today & keep getting an error message that they can not verify my information. I never make it past the personal info section. “We are sorry.
Unfortunately, you are not able to apply at this time, we were not able to validate the information you provided.”
Bizarre.

Having the same problem.. Any reason

No, I gave up. Seems like this bank is more trouble than it’s worth.

Applied on Dec/2016, was asked to send a bunch of documents, 2 HP (TU and EQ) and never heard from them, after couple of weeks called and was denied and needed to wait for a denial letter, called 3 times after that because letter never came and still today no letter, bank is in Puerto Rico, even though it says USA, when you contact them the call is redirected to PR especially after USA business hours, very hard to be approved, i personally will stay away for this offer.

Puerto Rico is a USA territory.

is it??, anyways that is not what i was trying to say, all i was saying is that they work different than here, you’re not calling Chase or Amex, you’re calling Banco Popular so good luck with that but that was my own experience. By the way i know that PR is a USA territory, we got two PR’s wifes in the family and the “good luck with that” came from one of then lol.

Just to save some people time, it appears that if you have or previously held either card, you are unable to apply for both. I had the 60k card and closed it and am unable to apply for either the 60k or the 40k offer.

It’s a partner of United. Does that mean I can look up a mileage redemption on United, call Avianca, and ask them to buy that flight? Thanks.

Uncivil_Engineer

No. You have to book through the Avianca LifeMiles site. Star Alliance availability there can be somewhat touch-and-go, but the upshot is no fuel surcharges (unless that’s changed in the last few months).

No fuel surcharges to this date and no close-in redemption fees. There is a $25 partner redemption fee. I agree that availability on Avianca and Star Alliance can be spotty.

We are sorry.
Unfortunately, you are not able to apply at this time, we were not able to validate the information you provided.

what does this mean?

My $149 annual fee posted this month for my second year. Called CS agent to request waiver. Initially denied but after speaking to manager AF was waived.

What did you tell them to get it waived?

I just told them my AF had posted and it was incredibly high (which it is!) for what i’m getting from the card. I then asked him to waive the AF, which he said they do not do. Then I asked to speak to a manager, which he put me on hold while he spoke to his manager. Then came back and said the AF would be waived “but only this one time.”

Did you get the bonus?
Originally when you applied, did you create an Avianca account number and enter it in the application or did you leave that field blank and let them create an Avianca number for you?

idk but my SO got the same thing….weird af

i was wondering if anyone has had any luck apply for both cards and getting both bonuses? It seems like this doesn’t work, but wanted to be more explicit

Banco Poplular only allows 1 Lifemiles CC open at the same time, so the answer is no.

Is this a hard rule? How do you know this for a fact?

Yes, this is a hard rule. Many DPs show this to be the case.

I was auto denied for this card, let’s see if they bother sending a letter why.

Applied on Dec/2016 and still waiting for that letter after request it 3 times.

lol

Agree with others. Applied with a credit freeze and was dinged. Sent them a code to access, tax documents and pay slips and no answer 3 months later. Wife was autoapproved. Both of us have 800+ scores.

DO NOT BOTHER TO APPLY FOR THIS CARD – Sorry for the use of caps and shame on me for not reading the comments earlier on. My wife and I have both over 800 credit scores, perfect payment records, and use less than 2% of our credit. She got rejected, I was supposed to load up more docs than I did for my mortgage until I indicated I would not load up anything else anymore. I sent them an employment letter, they wanted a W2 and a paystub. What a waste of a credit pull! They make US Bank’s processes seem easy in comparison.

What credit bureau do they pull?
