HSBC has sent out an e-mail to existing customers offering them $100 for each person they refer for the first two people, then $200 per referral up to a maximum of $2,000 per year. The person being referred can get a bonus of $500/$250 or $100. The problem is that this offer really sucks for the person being referred because they could get a bonus of $750 instead of $500, a bonus of $350 instead of $250 or a bonus of $200 instead of $100. HSBC is promoting this ahead of national friends day on August 4th, but friends don’t let friends sign up for terrible offers.
Theoretically if you give your full referral bonus to your friend they end up even on the $250/$100 bonuses for the first two referrals and then ahead when it jumps to $200 per referral but in practice that isn’t going to happen for most people.
