Bank of America Slowly Rolling Out Its Free FICO Score

At the very start of 2015, President Obama announced at a speech at the Federal Trade Commission that a number of financial institutions would be offering consumers access to their FICO score for free. One of those financial institutions was Bank of America, while all of the others have instituted their free scores Bank of America is yet to do so.

I’ve got a few small updates for people interested in this:

  • Score offered will be a TransUnion FICO8 classic score
  • Bank of America is rolling this out in waves, as follows:
    • December 7th: Bank of America employees have access to their score & dashboard
    • January 6th, 2016: A few states (including Georgia & Pennsylvania) will be given access
    • All other cardholders will have access to their score by the end of quarter one
  • Cardholders will need to opt in (will be given this option in the Activity Center on the right hand side, or by going to Tools & Investing and then clicking “View my FICO Score”)

All in all this is pretty disappointing by Bank of America, they are not meeting their 2015 deadline and will be offering the most common FICO score & variation possible (Barclaycard & Discover already offer it for example). I highly doubt I’ll use this benefit at all, but on the bright side at least they aren’t offering consumers a FAKO score.

Update: MyFICO user salek10 reports being able to see their score now, so obviously the time table above is not entirely accurate.

Is it the real FICO score or is it VantageScore?

Ken…Good thought on “it is & it’s.” But you used ‘there is” instead of “there’s.”
Might want to try using the word “an” in front of the word apostrophe.
“Do apostrophe?” Sounds almost like you’re calling a dance.
Capitalize the first word of every sentence. Helps the reader in determining that you’ve ended a thought.
“Bugs the crap out of me?” Good attention getter for starting a sentence but denotes a tone of anger. Try starting with something like: “I find it rather disturbing……”

I have a Bank of America credit card and there’s nothing online showing the FICO score. This is in Florida as-of 12-25-2015. It’s frustrating because there’s other articles online that say Bank of America was implementing it earlier this year.

It’s = it is. There is no possession for it’s. Ever. So next time you want to do apostrophe S say “it is” in your head. If it doesn’t make sense like that then leave it out. Bugs the crap out of me when people don’t understand this. Just a tip from a grammar Nazi 🙂

All sentences are capitalized, where do you see one that’s not? “There is” or “There’s” is exactly the same thing, so I’m not sure what the problem with that is. Yes, I missed an “an” before apostrophe, good catch. And yes, “bugs the crap out of me” was intended to show irritation or I wouldn’t have written it 😉
