Barclays Adds New App Features: Temporarily Lock Cards, Spend Alerts, Spent Limits & More

Barclays has added a number of new features to its mobile app. The new features are as follows:

  • SecurHold: Ability to temporarily lock lost or stolen credit cards – Temporarily locks lost or stolen cards
  • Spend alerts: Receive real time alerts whenever a purchase is made
  • Control merchant categories: Customizing spending across merchant types
  • Spend limits: Ability to set a per-transaction limit

The major feature is the ability to lock lost or stolen cards, this isn’t new with majority of other issuers already adding this ability some time ago (Chase, Discover,  CitiAmerican Express, Capital One & Bank of America). I also like the real time alert feature as well.

I think these features have been introduced for 3-4 months

I don’t think locking the card and setting limits is new. I’ve been using those features for awhile! The most annoying part is there is no push notifications on mobile app! All I see is E-mail and Text and they both suck big time as they aren’t real time! I checked my app store to see if a new version is out today, but the last version was from 6 days ago!

Use visa purchase alerts. It is real time

Is the transaction notification in the individual card control the same as the email transaction alerts?

I don’t see any option for Real time app alerts either. Only Email and Text.
Using the latest version of the app on iPhone.

Those real time alerts sure seem to take real time to get sent.

By the way US Bank (finally) completely redesigned their app and added all kind of fratures.

I have not used Barclay’s credit cards in a long time. The competition has better rewards
