Boeing is the latest corporate to ask for a government handout, following the airlines request for $50 billion and hotels request for $250 billion with a request for a minimum of $60 billion. Boeing notes that it’s responsible for 2,500,000 jobs and has 17,000 suppliers. It’s important to remember that like airlines Boeing has also participated in massive stock buy backs to the tune of $45 billion since 2009. Boeing’s problems also started before COVID-19 with the grounding of 737 MAX aircraft.
While I appreciate that those in the travel industry have been impacted by COVID-19, it’s no longer a uniquely travel issue and would prefer to see the government deal with underlying issues rather than cherry picking industry to receive bail outs.
