BP Credit Card in Transition Process

Update: New cards have been launched, you can view full details of the new cards here.

We reported that the BP Visa credit card and the BP store card which are currently issued by Chase are transferring over to be issued by Synchrony.

We still don’t have many rewards details will work, but BP is promising a “new and improved” card. “BP is in the process of improving the consumer credit card offers…”.

They promise that the new Visa card and store card will be available for application on May 18.

On the Chase site, they also now have more info on the transition process. The main transfer will be taking place on May 14. Oddly, you won’t be able to access your info at chase.com after May 8. Also, you won’t be able to register your account online with Synchrony until May 18.

Timeline:

  • Last online access at Chase.com is May 8
  • Transfer happens on May 14
  • Online access with Synchrony on May 18
  • Credit card available for signup with Synchrony on May 18

I would have guessed that Synchrony will issue new physical cards to existing cardholders (i.e. you won’t be able to use the same physical card after May 14), but there’s no clear mention of that so I’m not entirely positive.

We’ll have to wait and see how the rewards on the card work out to see if it’s a worthwhile card, but it’s certainly nicer to have the card as a Synchrony card instead of Chase, so as to leave our Chase applications for other cards.

Payment due today. No new card, no new bill yet from Synchrony, no new information by mail from either Synchrony or Chase. Chase automated customer service accepted an e-check payment, let’s see if it goes through. Yet another cluster-you-know-what courtesy of JP Morgan/Chase/BP.

What a mess. I’m an existing BP card holder. Tried to register with Synchrony can’t get in. No place to go to get help. Can’t access my history or balances. BP has a big problem here. Nice move !!!

I had a schedule payment to Chase for my BP Visa and I see that it has been canceled due to the transition. How can I get to the website for the new card so that I can make a payment? I do not want this to affect my credit. I cannot find where to go to make a payment.
