British Airways Extending Elite Status By 12 Months, Lowering Elite Requirements By 25%

British Airways has announced that it will be adding an additional 12 months onto Executive Club membership (extending elite status for 12 months). In addition they are reducing the amount of tier points needed by 25%, the new tier requirements will be as follows:

  • Bronze: 225 Tier Points or 18 eligible flights
  • Silver: 450 Tier Points or 37 eligible flights
  • Gold: 1125 Tier Points

Pretty much all major airlines have already extended elite status by 12 months, so it’s a bit strange that it took British Airways this long but I imagine elites are thankful that this has finally been announced. The tier point reduction is nice, but I can’t see too many people qualifying given how difficult air travel still is and how long COVID-19 has been affecting travel.

BA should get rid off their BLACK MAIL of surcharge on award flights. British BastUrds already collected this on paid tickets so this would be a BLACK MAIL. AA should fight this issue under current Covid 19 problems. Better yet leave ONE WORLD all together.

BA has shitty service on board and on ground, i don’t understand how these low life airline is still in business !

Wouldn’t you know it.

My tier collection year ended during the peak of COVID-19.

This promotion starts for collection year ending in July 2020 through to June 2021.

Not sure how valuable Oneworld Sapphire status would be for us, with little travel planned for rest of 2020-2021.
