Buy $6 in Amazon Credit for $.99 with Dash Buttons [Prime Only]

[Reposting this deal because $.99 Dash buttons came to light, making this deal $1 better. (HT: V.)

We posted about the $1.99 $.99 Amazon Dash button deal yesterday, but one point come to light that I hadn’t been aware of.

Briefly, Amazon offers these Dash buttons which come with a $4.99 credit. Usually, they cost $4.99, making them free after credit. Now, many varieties cost just $1.99 $.99, making it a $3 $4 moneymaker in Amazon credit. You can also select no-rush shipping for another $1 credit toward video, books, and games.

Direct Link to offer

In the previous post we wrote that to get the $4.99 credit you have to actually use the Dash button to order something. However, reader Brian pointed out in the comments there that this isn’t the case: as soon as you register the Dash button to your Amazon account, you’ll get the $4.99 credit.

So if you really want to maximize this deal, you can order many Dash buttons (one of each) and register them all to your Amazon account, effectively buying $4.99 Amazon credit + $1 video for the cost of just $1.99. It’s obviously a hassle, but it might be interesting for some. And keep in mind you might not want to do this in abusive quantities since Amazon may not take kindly to that.

Brian notes that you can only use one $4.99 credit per order. This is an important limitation; you won’t be able to use up all the credits on a single large purchase, only one per Amazon transaction. But if you’re someone who makes lots of small orders on Amazon it could still make sense.

I’m not sure how long the $4.99 credit lasts before expiring, but I imagine it’s at least 30-days.

The link in this post contains our Amazon affiliate link, but remember you could also use Jetblue for 3x.

Noob here,

How do you register it?

Does it have to be pressed once, linked via bluetooth to your app on phone? Is there another method without me pressing the button.

Me too. I have apthe Amazon iPad app, but the instructions don not match the options in the app. Even once I found what should be the right place, the button does not show up in my devices list, nor is there an “add new device” option! Really frustrating.

I just received mine and registered it. No credit when checking out on an item shipped by Amazon

Ok got it to work. You do need to place an order with the button, then cancel it. Then a “dash promotion” credit will show up in your next purchase (and the item does need to be shipped by Amazon)

Do you have any active Dash buttons?

Where do you see credits? When checking out the credit is not applied in the cart for me.

Item needs to be shipped from Amazon.com for the Dash Promotion to be applied

Cart will show a credit for $4.99 under “Dash Promotion”

Can you confirm that credit should applied to ANY item shipped by amazon and not just the specific item for which you got dash button for?

Did you select a product when registering the button?

Yes, for both. You select a product, press the button, cancel the order that came through. The credit should now apply to future orders

Maybe that step should have been shared before now…

Just connected my first button to account. How long until my $5 shows up?

Has anyone recently successfully applied the credit to other orders on Amazon? I setup the device, ordered with the promo, and then cancelled. Nothing else I add to my cart gets the promotion though.

I received mine, but interestingly it only seems to be valid for purchases the size of a warehouse store.

I am going return….ugh too much hassles for small return…I should know better by now.

I think 99c is the lowest we can get. And the idea of dash button is so laughable to me….

Bought in Dec 2016 for free using promo codes from here and slickdeals. These were gift card dashes and out of stock for few weeks. I guess as I would have missed the Dec 31st cutoff for credits, Amazon gave me both $4.99 credits before I received them. Interestingly, these two STACKED and I received $9.98 off a single order. Not sure if this was a special case because the dash buttons were not available right away (but it was all automatic, I never contacted anyone)

Proof of my 2 $4.99 credits stacking (but as I mentioned in my original post, and the fact that they are labeled “Courtesy Credit,” it may very well be that this was a special situation as the gift card dash buttons would not make it by Dec 31 and Amazon wanted me to still get the $4.99 credits so they applied them some other way):

another angle — discovered that if I buy three of these DB’s at one time, then elect no-rush shipping, I’m to receive a $5.00 credit towards Amazon Pantry. (something I was soon to try anyway — and that’s separate from the current free shipping Pantry promo for Prime members.) Yes, peanuts… (maybe walnuts too 😉 )

You can even buy 1 button at a time to get $15 Pantry credit. You might actually want to do that because Amazon gives you $1 digital credit after your 20th Pantry credit iirc. That $1 digital credit is more useful to me – I can buy video games, Kindle books, etc.
