[CA only] Safe Credit Union – Platinum Rewards Card – 60,000 Point Bonus

Update 5/18/21: Bonus now 60,000 points.

Safe Credit Union offers the Platinum Rewards credit card, let’s take a look at this card in more detail.

Card Basics

  • Sign up bonus of 60,000 points after $3,000 in spend within the first 90 days
  • No annual fee

Our Verdict

SAFE also has a 5% card that lets you pick a category (home improvement, charity, utilities, and movie theaters). I wonder if it’s possible to sign up for this card and then product change it to that card. The annoying thing about this Platinum Rewards card is that we don’t know how much points are worth or what they can be used for.

Best option I’m seeing is converting 3600 points to a $25 Stockpile gift card (and buying BIL or such). Works out to $416 and change.

Through the travel portal, I am seeing the following rates:

22,963 Points for a $309.99* flight.
* Includes a $15 non-refundable fee for each reservation

Roughly ~$800 in flights at this rate.

 William Charles used chat to ask if i could PC from Cash Rewards Card to Platinum Card, was told they do not offer any PC. Followed up by asking if i could do Cash Rewards Card to Platinum Rewards Card since they’re both rewards cards, again, they do not offer any PC. So unless something changes, that’s a no.

Did you join the CU first or just apply straight for the card?

Accordingto the Terms and Conditions document they use the scorecard rewards platform that a number of CUs use. Points are generally worth 0.5¢ each, but you might find better redemption options.

FYI…looks like this bonus has been reduced to 15k. I was finally getting around to it, snooze you lose.

I applied and was tentatively approved on 8/5, with “credit limit up to $20,000”. A few days later I received a letter of denial stating “Does not qualify for membership”.

I live in the Bay Area.

I’m thinking about applying for the card, I live in the Alameda county, I’m thinking of applying over the phone instead of online, that way it could be faster and usually its like a in branch, I feel like they could work around. When I applied for the amex business, I called and just ask questions and its like they don’t want you to get the card, but I applied online and still got the amex business card lol…
