[Extended] Capital One Adds Ability To Redeem Spark Business Card Points For Mobile Phone & Restaurant Services (1¢ Per Point)

Update 11/16/20: This has been extended again through April 30, 2021.

Update 9/18/20: This has been extended through December 31, 2020. Hat tip to DDG

Original Post:

Capital One Spark Miles business cards points can now be used to offset mobile phone charges and restaurant charges, in addition to all previous redemption options.

We reported last week that Capital One added the ability to redeem Miles on the personal Venture cards to offset restaurant delivery, takeout, and streaming services at 1 cent per point.

Via Frequentmiler, Capital One has made a similar move on their Spark Miles and Miles Select cards to allow redeeming miles to offset mobile phone payments (whether bill payments or phone/accessory purchases), as well as restaurant delivery and takeout:

  • Eligible restaurant takeout and food delivery purchases.
  • Purchases made from eligible wireless phone service providers, such as Verizon®, AT&T®, T-Mobile® and select others. This category would include mobile phone bills, payments and purchases. Internet, Wifi, and Landline services are not eligible.

Both have the restaurant takeout and delivery redemption options; the business cards have the added mobile phone category option and the personal cards have the added streaming services category option.

For added clarity: the Spark Cash business cards allow 1¢ cash redemptions with no limitation whereas the Spark Miles business cards allow points to be transferred to travel partners or points can be cashed out at 1¢ per point when used to offset travel purchases; going forward, phone and restaurant are additional cash out options, along with travel.

This change is really useful for someone who wants the option of cashing out Miles points.

“Update 11/16/20: This has been extended again through April 30, 2020.” You probably mean 2021

Now if only Amex would extend those credits another quarter…

There is no reason to use the points for anything other than just cash back. Same result, one click and done.

Just applied and was approved for a Cap One Spark Bus card so I could get the $500 bonus after spending $4,500 for my llc formed last year. The problem is I already have a Cap One Spark Bus card under my sole propr name from a few years ago. In reading the fine print, will that disable me from getting the $500 bonus? If so, I may call and cancel the card unless it will ding my credit.

Consider those are deductible expenses, I would much rather pay for them and redeem for cash back.
