Capital One Launches ‘Premier Collection’ Hotels [Now Live]

Capital One has launched ‘Premier Collection‘, this is a collection of hotels that give extra benefits to Capital One Venture X cardholders. Similar to American Express’ Fine Hotels & Resorts program. The benefits for Premier Collection are as follows:

  • Earn 10x points on bookings
  • A $100 experience credit to use during your stay
  • Complimentary breakfast for two each day
  • Free WiFi throughout your stay
  • Additional benefits when available (early check in, late check out, room upgrades and more)
  • You can use the Venture X $300 annual credit for these properties

Hard to know how useful this will be without knowing the properties available. Suspect it’ll end up being extremely similar to Fine Hotels & Resorts.

My sense is that, in spite of the name, the stable of hotels is no different than those on the Chase UR platform, which is essentially Expedia-like inventory. Granted, there are perks. But, what one would hope for (given the name) is hotels that are otherwise only found on the FHR and Chase LHR platforms. Without FHR/LHR-type hotels, the Capital One platform remains a non-starter for me.

You can actually see the available hotels now through the travel portal. It’s definitely not Expedia inventory.

At least Amex gives you $200 off in addition to the perks. This is simply $100 “experience” credit and breakfast.

Isn’t that analogous to the $300 travel credit that Venture X has?

Debatable. The Venture X $300 credit is clearly something you’re prepaying for. Whether the $200 FHR credit from Amex is prepaid or free is obfuscated by a bunch of other coupons.

Plus the late checkout on Amex FHR is guaranteed.

Nothing to be found in Tokyo or Kyoto, strange.

They are launching w very few partner hotels. Expect the list to grow. I expect them to overlap significantly w FHR, eventually.

A quick search for me indicates no options in Atlanta, New Orleans or Mexico City. Hopefully their offerings expand!

Initial search in London and Paris is not compelling.

Wonder if booking consecutive stays back to back will count as individual stays to get credit for each day.

Thats has been an Awesome benefit combined with $200 Amex Plat Credit – made for some nice long weekends (to chill and take a late flight home on Sun/Mon or when moving to a hotel that has a 3PM check-in (but most will store your bags for free or even allow early check-in (got free early-in last friday on Hotels dot com booking).

But Guaranteed in writing – is better as as part of Amex deal.

But hopefully they will give at least $30pp for free breakfast – will make VenX even better- will be PCing our final Amex Plats over 6-8 months when AF hits to Gold (almost break even) but hopefully some nice upgrade offers to Plat.

The Venture X is always 10x for hotels (5x for flights) when booked through the Capital One travel portal. That said, my P2 and I recently used our respective $300 travel credits for two different non-name brand hotels in Italy and both of us were placed in non-desirable rooms. I mention that since that isn’t usually the case when using hotels.com or the Amex Travel Portal. Curious if anyone has had a similar experience with C1?

I used my travel credit for a room in England and it was great. It was almost a suite.

I used my $300 credit for a hotel in Paris and got an complimentary upgrade to a very nice room. Btw, from working in the travel industry in Europe, I know that some hotels assigned their worst rooms exclusively just for the least expensive bookings through OTAs. Therefore, there’s a possibility that you ended up in a hotel like that.

I used it at a boutique hotel in June and the room was very nice!

Is the 10x actually a perk? Doesn’t Venture X already earn 10x on all hotel bookings through the portal anyway?
