Our Verdict

This offer likely won’t last long, we have seen a $1,000 bonus and $750 bonus before but they expired shortly after posting. This offer basically works out to be 12% cash back on all purchases on $10,000 in spend (10% from the sign up bonus and 2% from the card itself). It might be difficult for some people to hit that $10,000 spend requirement though so keep that in mind. Most businesses shouldn’t have too much trouble.

Keep in mind that Capital One pulls all three credit bureaus. You can freeze your Experian or TransUnion reports and they will just pull the other two and still approve you. Personally a triple pull doesn’t concern me as much as it used to, but it will depend on what your credit profile is like and where you live (e.g in some areas all issuers will only pull the same bureau so having inquiries on the other two bureaus doesn’t really matter).  If you’re not familiar with Capital One please read these things everybody should know about Capital One credit cards first. I applied for the Spark $750 bonus with TU locked, and they pulled EX and EQ and rejected my app saying my TU credit history was too short(!). I then unlocked TU, had them pull it, and they then rejected me again, this time for too many recent accounts. My attempt to recon was laughably unsuccessful; the CSR just claimed that TU sets the definition of “too many” and “recent”, and hung up on me when I asked to speak to someone else.

I have more inquiries now in all three bureaus than the last time this offer came out. I was denied then for too many credit inquiries, so not even going to bother this time.

I believe this is targeted. You will need invite codes. Recent DPs also suggest that the partial credit freeze will not be tolerated. If you freeze EX they will refuse to process the app. A Cap1 in the last 6 months will likely disqualify you. Several new cc accounts/inquiries will also lower your chances.

I believe I’ve seen multiple data points saying the freeze not being tolerated too (recently). Not sure if it was reddit or maybe previous Spark posts on DoC

I applied for this card with EX frozen and was auto approved. (I messed around with the numbers at the end until the link worked). I have no other cap1 cards.
