Capital One To Launch Two Airport Lounges (DFW & IAD)

In addition to adding new flexible point transfer partners and increasing the transfer rates, today Capital One announced it would be opening two airport lounges at DFW & IAD airports. Details are as follows:

  • Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW) lounge will open in late summer 2021 and be ~10,000 square feet. Lounge will be located in Terminal D near Gate 22
  • Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) lounge will open in 2022 and be ~9,000 square feet. Lounge will be located near the security check point.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like any Capital One cardholders will get free access to the lounges with Capital One stating that “customers will be eligible for special cardholder pricing, depending on their card.” The lounges will include things such as grab and go food, restaurant quality dine in options, coffee bar, wellness rooms (e.g cycling and yoga), shower suites, semi private work spaces and soundproof relaxation rooms.

My guess is that Capital One is gearing up to launch a more premium style card and that will include free access to these lounges among other benefits. Capital One has always catered to the lower end of the market so this would be an interesting change of direction. It’s also possible that Capital One won’t launch a premium style card and existing cardholders will just be able to access these lounges for ~$30 with it costing non cardholders $50+.

Capital One: What’s in your wallet?
Me: What’s in your lounge?

I see this as a great opportunity to expand their co-branded enterprise with Walmart!
Walmart will be able to beat Amazon into the co-branded airport lounge business! Coup!

I wonder if Capital One employees will get free access to the lounges?

The people who work there will be lucky to get in for free

Would they pull all 3 credit bureaus prior to entry?

They will demand to see what’s in your wallet before allowing entry

Unless this place lets you use Lounge Buddy credits or something, many of the people in this community will not want to pay out of pocket for admission, no matter how much free food they can grab on their way out.

Cue the rampant speculation. All aboard the hype train.

So those rumors of a ultra-premium card from Cap 1 may be true after all.

DAE think these lounges are overrated? Amex has a $50 entry fee? It’s not like these lounges have strippers in them

What can you possibly except from capital one…

Expect some noodles and tap water with chairs for $50 entry fee.

Capital One wins against Amex in terms of customer service, IT, usefulness of points, and …. Although honestly Amex has been so badly run and has been so customer unfriendly during the past few years, that it’s tough to imagine a major credit card issuer that is worse than Amex to deal with.

These lounges wouldn’t be operated or staffed by Capital One employees though.

Lounge management & credit card customer support also have nothing in common, so I’m not sure why you’re comparing the two.

you are out of your mind. amex has literally been a star. They are, by far, the best credit card issuer for people like us. they have just been giving away money during covid

I have not had that experience with Amex.

That’s nice. That has nothing to do with lounge operation. This article is about a lounge you will probably never visit.
