Cathay Pacific (and Cathay Dragon) has announced that it is removing fuel surcharges on most flights starting with tickets purchased from May 1st, 2020 onwards. Flights originating from Japan will still have a fuel surcharge applied. Fuel surcharges with Cathay Pacific were relatively modest anyway, but this is still a positive change so it’s nice to see.

1. What if I make a reservation today for a flight on May 1?
Answer: You will have to pay the surcharge. From Cathay’s website, it appears that it doesn’t matter when the flight takes place; it only matters when the ticket is purchased. So, wait until May 1 to buy a ticket.
2. What about award ticket too?
Answer: Don’t know; the website doesn’t specify.
fuel is so cheap nowadays, they should pay us 🙂
