Chase Allowing Credit Limit Increases Without Hard Credit Pull

Update 3/10/23: Chase recently sent out an internal memo to bankers confirming that no credit pull is done for credit limit increase requests. And so it appears that the is now a rule for all credit limit increases, irrespective of whether they are requested via the app or any other platform.

Update 2/20/23: This is now showing up for more people.

Original Post:

Chase is now letting users request credit limit increases via the Chase app and no hard credit pull is done. Previously Chase has always done a hard pull for credit limit increases. Currently this feature is not available to everybody but if you’re eligible it should show as “Request a credit limit increase” under “Transfer A Balance”. It also looks like only pre-approved credit limit increases will avoid the hard pull as it states “preapproved increases will not have a credit pull”.

I applied for CLI on my CSP card, filled out income and housing info, then got message saying they are reviewing, will send letter in 7-10 business days, so it looks like a denial.

Cool I just requested and got a 9k cli, finally they’re seeing reason

I have this available on chase.com

Hello. First time here. Yes Chase just gave me 2 CLI on both my cards with a soft pull! I’ve been waiting for them to finally do what Capital has been doing for years! Thanks Chase!

Chase Slate from $7k to $13k.
Chase Freedom Unlimited from $1k to $2k.
The rep suggested not to ask for a very high limit increase because it could get denied and no counter offer. I took his advice and got both increased almost double.

I checked my app randomly today and I was given the option to request a limit increase. It only let me do one CLI for the card I picked. When I tried again, it told me it was unavailable.

Same – I did it on my CSP and it gave me cli from 18k to 27k but when I went back for my CF said it wasn’t available – both showed up intially eligible – I’ll probably check again in 3-6 mos

Does the no hard pull item also work for business? Have a zero % apr offer on my ink and would love to have a higher limit for that.

Option appears in the app for me. Did CFU first, entered income and mortgage payment info, offered $1,600 CLI, accepted. Freedom Flex shows “a CLI increase is not available” – may be due to the CLI on the CFU, or the system hasn’t gotten to that account yet. Sent a secure message.

What happened when you sent the secure message? What response did you get? Limit increase approved for your other Chase credit card?

You can now request a CLI through Chase secure messages. They ask for your income and housing payment, and specify that it will be a soft inquiry, not hard.

Does 5/24 apply to CLIs?

Lee

Technically, no. But, it seems that front line analysts who manually review applications are uncertain of their own rules. In 2021, my wife was given 5/24 as the reason for the CLI decline. But, upon questioning, the answer turned to credit inquiries.

I called and got declined on my credit limit increase for both CSP and CFU due to too many accounts open. 5/24 rule applies to credit limits?

About 1.5 years ago, my wife’s credit limit increase was declined. Reconsideration rep said 5/24. Talked with a branch rep who verified that 5/24 does not apply to credit limit increases. So, then, what was the reason? Inquiries. Yeah, yeah, inquiries. I sense the front line credit analysts don’t even know what their rules are.

Got declined with the same reason
