marriott 70k offer

The Fine Print

  • Annual fee of $99 is waived first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5x points at Marriott
    • 2x points at airline tickets purchased directly with the airline, and at car rental agencies, restaurants, office supply stores, and for Internet, cable and phone services purchases
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • 15 credits towards Elite membership after approval and every year after account anniversary
  • 1 elite credit for every $3,000 spent
  • Annual anniversary bonus of a free night certificate for a category 1-5 property

Our Verdict

It’s still possible to get the 80,000 point offer, although this doesn’t have the $99 annual fee waived the first year (also still available on personal card). I think you’d have to be crazy to value Marriott points at near to 1¢ per point. That being said, I still don’t think you should apply for this 70k offer and here’s why: they often have an even better bonus. In the past you could get 70,000 Points for only $2,000 in spend and also in the first year you got a free category 1-4 night stay. I’d recommend waiting for that offer instead.

I have a FICO score around 765 and have a good history with Chase. I’ve had my real estate business for about 2 years, and my gross income is around $100,000. I applied for a Marriott Premier Business Visa last month with the 80,000 point offer and was denied. Their reason was “business too new” and “insufficient business income.” I called the reconsideration line twice and both agents gave the same reasons. I was approved for 2 other Chase cards this year. Do you think Chase is cracking down on this card now with the number of cards they will approve? Do you have any suggestions of how I can get approved for this card? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Two years and real revenue. Odd that they denied you. Could be a spill-over from the 5/24 rule.

Quick update… I didn’t realize when I applied that I had a balance on one of my Chase cards at a 0% APR. I paid that balance. I also paid my other Chase cards’ balances off weeks before the due date. I called back the reconsideration line and explained that I didn’t realize when I applied for this card that I had balances on my other Chase cards. I told him I paid them off and asked if I could be reconsidered. He asked some questions about my real estate business and personal income. After placing me on hold a few times to review my accounts, he said he would approve me but needed to transfer credit from my Ink Plus. I did that and am now approved. Lesson learned: make sure all balances are paid before applying or calling the reconsideration line.

The 70k + free night was also on the biz card?
It’s worth mentioning that if you get both of these cards this year and churn with a new Marriott FFN next year and merge accounts you’ll be pretty close to platinum because of rollover nights.

I just got gold elite status on my marriott premier. What are some practical benefits I can use? Do I get to use faster wifi at their establishments, etc?
