Chase Cuts Hyatt Referral Bonus To 5,000 Per Referral (Down From 10,000)

In addition to reducing the Hyatt referral sign up bonus to 50,000 points (previously 60,000) Chase has also sent out an e-mail to existing cardholders that the new referral bonus will be 5,000 per approved referral, down from 10,000. This shouldn’t really affect anybody because you shouldn’t be referring friends to this offer, especially when there was a 60,000 offer so recently (that offer is also still available).

The fact that they have also reduced the maximum bonus to 25,000 bonus per year makes me think this is a permanent change as well. Seems very strange given that the customer acquisition costs for referral offers are typically significantly lower than other sources, although Chase might expect they would capture those new cardholders regardless of the offer.

Not understanding – my husband got the 60k bonus at WOH launch then referred me in Dec. He just got 10k, & I will be getting 60k.

Bummer. What are the odds they have an increased SUB again?

“This shouldn’t really affect anybody because you shouldn’t be referring friends to this offer, especially when there was a 60,000 offer so recently”

It’s unclear if they are backdating that 5k/referral and/or 25k/year change. If you referred people in December (but not early enough to be on your December statement) or early January, Chase may only give you 5k or cap you at 25k/year. So this definitely could affect people…

Agreed it would be deceptive. Though I definitely wouldn’t be surprised if it is applied to all referral bonuses which haven’t already posted on statements.

I’m still waiting on bonuses from referring a couple family members in early December. My statement cut end-of-December with no bonuses 🙁

is this new? 6k spend over 6 months? maybe thats their way of fighting back the losses caused by gamers. giving a longer spend time threshold may appeal to a bigger crowd

They had two-level spend like that for a while, since the refresh last year in 2018.

when I tried to refer my wife from my 10k email code and 60k points it said that offer was no longer available… and the only offer available was the 50k offer… thankfully, she applied and got approved on her 3rd try… I have no problem with them reducing the sub or referral points.. as long as they don’t devalue the points!!!!

Well Will is noting referring someone right now would be pointless as they’d get the 50k Offer + 5k Referral which would net 55k while there is a 60k Offer still available. You’d be leaving 5k on the table.
