[Expired] [Updates] Chase Pay: 10x/10% Points At Best Buy On Up To $300

This deal has expired and is unfortunately no longer available. Never miss another deal again by signing up for free and instant notifications of new posts.

(1/20/18) Fourth Update: Chase tells us that:

The Chase Pay® Best Buy® promo posted on bestbuy.com on 1/17/2018 reflected an incorrect offer amount. The offer is valid for purchases up to $300. Customers that had qualifying purchases between $300 and $400 on 1/17/2018 will receive adjustments to their accounts within the next two weeks.

They’ve also confirmed that the offer is public for all Sapphire cards.

(1/18/18) Third Update: Now emails are going out on Freedom Unlimited and all Sapphire cards. Limit is $300, I’ve updated title. Also added direct links to all cards.

(1/18/18) Second Update: Offer is now rolling out to Sapphire cards. It might also be available on the Freedom Unlimited. *Important* The limit is now showing as $300 even for the Freedom card which was previously showing $400 limit. More details on these changes in this dedicated post.

Update: I’ve heard back from Chase and there is a few important things to note:

Contents

The Offer

Direct links to offer: Chase Sapphire Reserve | Chase Freedom | Chase Freedom Unlimited | Chase Sapphire

Direct link to offer

  • Chase Pay is offering 10% cash back when you use Chase Pay at Best Buy on up to $400 in purchases. The above link is for the Chase Freedom, I’m not sure if this also applies to other Chase cards as it did last time.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid in-store only. During the promotional period of January 15, 2018, to February 4, 2018, earn an extra 9% cash back on up to $400 in purchases at Best Buy® when you check out with your Chase Freedom card using Chase Pay.
  • The bonus cash back earned is in addition to the 1% cash back you earn on all purchases for a total of 10% cash back.
  • Bonus cash back will post to your account within a week of the transaction posting, and will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement and be available for use within 1–2 billing cycles.
  • To qualify for this promotional offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment.
  • This promotional offer is non-transferable.
  • For more information about your rewards program, see your Rewards Program Agreement.

Our Verdict

Shame that this is only for Chase Freedom cardholders and it’s a total of 10% back instead of 15%, but can’t really complain too much.   You can view other Best Buy promotions by clicking here. You can only use Chase Pay on Best Buy purchases in store so keep that in mind. No registration is required. Swagbucks is also offering another 2% back in store as well.

Wonder how this stacks with the 5x mobile wallet payment bonus…. Strange that they specify 1x + 9x when Chase Pay would be 5x.

Jeremy

Is this like the Walmart.com promotion where it’s 5x Chase pay and 5x quarter bonus?

If your BB doesn’t do VGC (like mine) then the next best option would be gas or eBay. Too bad eBay no longer allows use of GC on coins and paper money, as I would regularly drain VGC on gold.

I wonder this promo is subject to $1500 limit on Chase Freedom quarter’s bonus.

Oleg Shalumov
Oleg Shalumov

I thought that quarterly bonus is limited to $500?! was it changed to $1,500 this quarter?

Chuck

It was always $1,500

Oleg Shalumov

Thank! I knew it but for some reason my mind blanked

Ma Barker

afaik, this is a separate deal from the quarterly bonus cat; the limit on CP is one per qualified card.

Emiliy
Emiliy

It would be. You are using your freedom for a chase pay purchase. So you are using $400 of the $1500.

Have not found a BB VGC this season despite deep scanning 3 BBs around me during the Amex offer though that was made well use if on the last day of the year with the Gas GCs….anyone found VGCs this season in BB?

VB
VB

Nope, was told they don’t carry them in my city

Superchurn
Superchurn

I was told the same thing…not sure if they’re just hiding them or if they actually dont

VB
VB

Not sure there’s a reason to hide them. Who would they hold them for?

I asked repeatedly for them at the 2 stores near me (nobody really knew that much about them). I didn’t see them until about a week or so before Christmas, and they were gone just few days afterwards. Other stores farther away from me also said they only had them right around the end of December.

One of my BB had vgc behind the register at customer service. I had to be persistent to make them look.(they will tell you they don’t have them anymore) They only let me buy 2 and said they were being discontinued. This was back on last Chase promo. Will check again but not hopeful…

I saw a full stock at a store in October that never had them before. By early December, they were almost all gone. I don’t think they restock these so they were probably just seasonal.

Stores that kept them behind counters tended to still have some around the holidays. But at least half of the stores in my area were picked clean by then.

I take that back. At one of the stores I went to before Xmas, I saw plenty of them still there today. They were away from the others though, like before, around the corner. The cashier had no idea they ever had them.

My nephew is an assistant manager of a Best Buy in northern california. He had told me most, if not all stores discontinued carrying the VGCs by early last year. The profit margin was nominal but they suffered constant fraud on a massive scale per store. It was simply not worth the risk to carry them. Though he said all stores, I think he would only be aware of the northern cali region so not sure how applicable this is for other regions/states.

NinjaX
NinjaX

NCAL is a known wasteland. Not sure where your guy is, but the story is the same for VGC at any NCAL store like safeway and OD/DM/WG.

Austin, TX every store is sold out (final stores ran out in Dec). If anyone has insight on other Texas cities (in stock or out of stock) I’d welcome the intel.

Brian
Brian

BB in San Diego had them as of a couple days ago behind customer service. No issues with getting them from CS. Also looks like the Swagbucks in-store scan tracked from the VCG purchases.

Alex
Alex

Just a heads up, since no online portal can be used. Swagbucks allows you to print or a show (on your phone) a QR code which (currently) gives 2% cashback (swagbucks) at best buy. Your purchase has to be over $50 for it to apply though. Furthermore, if you make a purchase of $50 from items within the weekly add, you’ll get a flat 500 swagbucks ($5). You can also get shopkicks at best buy by having them scan a QR code from the shopkick app.

why not use ebates in-store for 1%

Diamond Vargas
Diamond Vargas

Because Swagbucks > 1%

Chuck

jnrfalcon I don’t see Best Buy on Ebates in-store list https://www.ebates.com/in-store.htm?sort=alpha
Alex I’m seeing Swagbucks with a 1% offer (plus 500 bonus), not a 2% offer
http://www.swagbucks.com/shop/store/10768/best-buy?page=115&trkid=undefined

Edit: oh, I see the Best Buy on Ebates now, it just doesn’t show in the list. https://www.ebates.com/bestbuy.com

EastsideBK
EastsideBK

Thanks, Chuck, for this post. I NEVER knew Ebates was available for Best Buy in-store since it wasn’t on the list. Is this a new thing or has this been available for awhile? Are you (or your readers) aware of any other stores that are not on the EBates in-store list that still offer in-store cashback?

Chuck

Nothing comes to mind, but who knows

jnrfalcon
jnrfalcon

it is not in the list but on the Best Buy page from ebates. May be time limited or targeted though… it says “Special In-Store Cash Back Coupon – Scan your coupon code and get 1.0% Cash Back when you shop in store at Best Buy.”

Brian
Brian

I tried the Ebates in-store for BB about a month ago so it has been on for a bit. The GC purchase I made tracked at $0, haven’t tried 3rd party though to see if that works.

Lily
Lily

I find Ebates in-store cash back to be a hit or miss. 50% of the time my purchases from BBB received the cb but the other half time never did. Couldn’t contact them because most of my purchases are gcs. lol

James
James

Exclusions: Cash Back is not available on Best Buy gift cards, warranties, Laptops, Tablets, Desktops, Video Game Hardware (including Virtual Reality Hardware), Point of Sale Activation (POSA) Cards, Apple-branded Watches, services (including but not limited to Geek Squad services, etc.), and transactions on third party (i.e. non-BestBuy.com) websites or properties, even if such transactions occurred as a result of a Customer clicking a link from a Best Buy Property.

VB
VB

I’m reading POSA Cards as “every other gift card besides Best Buy.”

Homer

Where are you seeing this? I don’t see any mention of this on the offer page.

NinjaX
NinjaX

its not on the in-store CC registration page because its not a “real” in-store mechanism like the other stores. you need to scan a QR code to track the purchase and works just like a coupon code. you dont register your CC for BB in store. thats why it says “Scan your coupon code and get 1.0% Cash Back when you shop in store at Best Buy.” this probably also means they can track your purchase even in more detail vs CC transaction monitoring.

The Swagbucks today (January 26th) is showing up as 2%, however in the terms it specifically states gift cards are not eligible. With the receipt scan a requirement, I would assume a strong YMMV here?

James B.
James B.

Will the Swagbucks 2% cashback apply to purchase VGCs at Best Buy? Or only non-gift card purchases? Thus 2% x $400 for an extra $8?

Diamond Vargas
Diamond Vargas

Definitely works for third-party merchant gift cards. Should work for VGCs as well.

James B.
James B.

YMMV for gift card purchases. SB Terms and Conditions: The following purchases are not eligible for SB: Apple-branded products (Apple Watch, Laptops, Tablets, Desktops, iPhones, etc), Mobile devices, Best Buy Business orders, Bestbuy.ca orders, gift cards, warranties, transactions on 3rd Party Websites, online photo center sales, digital downloads, Geek Squad Services, phone activations, long-distance and internet service sales and Reward Zone Purchases.

Steve

Can you get both swagbucks & shopkicks, or is it just one QR code per transaction?

Alex
Alex

Try and report back!

Jimmy
Jimmy

Though I haven’t tried these two together specifically, I have tried two rebate programs in the past and the register came up something on the screen stating that only one rebate offer allowed. I have successfully combined Best Buy Reward Zone + Shopkick.

momosan

iBotta also has a QR code, but for 1%. YMMV on that, as I’ve noticed that iBotta tends to lower rates for more active users.

I wonder how many of these you can stack.

Alex

Does this combine with 5x chase pay this quarter?

Can I add a non chase credit card to chase pay?

No. You just login to chase. There is no “add”.

Can’t remember does bestbuy have safeway gc?

Best Buy is a dying business, they are going to have more sales trying to hold on. Make the most of these sales as possible. I went to a B&M store to buy a specific Apple Watch 3 several weeks before Christmas. Last week (obviously several weeks after the holiday,) I got an email last week that the order was cancelled because it was backordered. Luckily, I got it elsewhere to give as a gift. This is despite assurances from staff that it would be ready before Christmas. Best Buy=circuit city=0.

Adam

I guess you’ll be rly mad now that CC is coming back next month 🤣 https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/01/09/circuit-city-to-relaunch-online-next-month-with-stores-on-the-horizon.html

A store being out of stock on a popular product doesn’t mean they’re dying. It’s the oppposite you idiot – it shows that they have a high sell thru rate.

NinjaX
NinjaX

haha. Best Buy is a dying business? ur confusing it with Sears and Toys R Us. ur analysis makes no sense, but hey, youre entitled to your own opinion so enjoy man!

Fred
Fred

Agree. Sears and Kmart not Best Buy is dying.

Darvin Ray
Darvin Ray

Depending on your location in the US, Best Buy could be going well or bad. All the Best Buys in my are are doing well and theyve learned to compete with online stores. That may not be the case with the stores your area.

LNK
LNK

I bought this dying company stock 2016 at mid $30 , now it doubled and have a dividend yield higher than 10 year treasury, I guess we need more people like you so I can profit from these “dying business”. Also bought some dying stock like Target last year…

D

Best Buy stock is at an all time high. You’re an idiot.

Ron

Their stock is booming right now. Up about 40% over the last 3 months and growing. You might want to reconsider your opinion.

The expiration date is 2/4. Which date applies, the purchase date, or the date the charge actually hits your credit card? Thanks.

TheTaxman_cometh

The transaction date, which is almost always the purchase date in store.

Which 3pGCs does BB sell in store? I’ve seen Ebay months ago, but I haven’t seen any recently.

In addition to that list, our local best buy also sells bp gift cards.

Since SB and EBates both require scanning their own separate QR code, how do you stack it with Chase Pay? Besides, the SB offer explicitly states it’s not stackable with other offers.

Chuck

I’d assume you can first scan the rewards codes like Ebates/SB and then the payment QR code from Chase Pay.

James B.
James B.

I did it this morning. First scan the SB QR code, select “Pay” in the Chase Pay app, and then place you phone near the payment terminal or have the Chase Pay QR code scanned.

Hi James B, How long did it take for SB to post those points from your BB store purchase ? Just curious, as my SB points haven’t been posted for transaction that is almost a week old.

James B.
James B.

The 500 SB bonus posted on Jan 19. I have not seen the 2% bonus post yet.

Sam
Sam

Thanks James… I completely forgot about 500 SB. Hope to see both of those bonus points soon.

I know that Gift of College GC’s were in the works at BB for awhile now.

Any info on when they’re supposed to be in stock?

Any confirmation it works on other chase cards?
