Chase Sapphire, CSR, CSP Cardholders Being Offered Two Years Of DoorDash ‘DashPass’ (Normally $9.99 A Month) For Free

Update 1/15/20: Chase is sending out the free 1-2 year offer via email even to regular Sapphire cardholders, so it seems all Sapphire cards are eligible for this, even the no-fee Sapphire version. (ht ZS and AC)

Update: Preferred also gets two years for free with Chase Freedom/Slate getting three months. I think this likely indicates we will see some sort of additional credit for Reserve cardholders.

Original Post:

Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders are being offered two years of food delivery service DoorDash’s DashPass for free. After adding a Chase Sapphire Reserve card to your account, you should see this prompt. DashPass provides free delivery on orders from eligible restaurants, although service fees and minimum orders can still also apply. It was rumored that Chase would be adding a dining/delivery benefit to the Sapphire Reserve late last year and DoorDash was the partner I’d heard about.

I hope that this DashPass benefit isn’t the only thing being added as it’s probably of limited use to most cardholders. If the card also came with a $10 monthly credit then that would be a different story. There is undoubtedly less pressure on Chase to improve the Sapphire Reserve after American Express made negative changes to how the $200 airline credit works on the Platinum card.

Interesting. Dashpass gets you discounted service fees and free delivery from some restaurants. Wonder if a pc’d CSR will trigger or whether they continually check.

11. What happens if I activated my free DashPass with my eligible Chase card then upgrade or downgrade to another eligible Chase card?

You will be unenrolled from your existing DashPass subscription and notified by DoorDash to update your payment information in your DoorDash wallet with your new Chase card payment information. Once your new card is added to DoorDash you will be prompted to enroll in the benefit offer specific to your eligible Chase product. If the subscription benefit is different for your new product, your subscription will reset including a new activation and expiration date. If the subscription benefit is the same, your subscription will not reset and your expiration date will remain the same.

Thanks.

FWIW, this had no details when I read the post prior to making the comment.

Adding a data point. Signed up for the benefit yesterday. Downgraded my card today over phone. An hour later I have an email from doordash confirming that my dashpass subscription has been canceled.

I’m guessing this is not one of those limited to the first 50,000 people kind of deals… so it would make more sense to activate the pass only when you’re about to use it for the first time? But it’s hard to say… 2 years is a long time in the cc world. Anything can change in the next 6 months.

Mike
Mike

Yes, don’t activate until you plan to start using it. On the Chase page (link below) it states an expiration date of 12/31/21. Must activate by 12/31/21.

Mike
Mike

However waiting doesn’t extend the expiration date so you might as well activate. It will still expire 12/31/21.

As someone who pays for Dash Pass, but doesn’t have this card, I am getting some huge FOMO.

Yeah, you can do Doordash if you don’t mind the driver eating bits and pieces of your food.

I took advantage of the Capital One Postmates offer and ran into a few of these situations. I’ve had food missing from the order entirely but I’ve never had any one Brazen enough to send half-eaten food. Either they don’t deliver it all together or the item is completely missing. There’s an Italian restaurant that I’ve ordered from, the food isn’t particularly good but what I do like is that their bags are sealed with a special tamper-proof adhesive. There’s also a strict kosher restaurant that makes an amazing falafel sandwich for $10.95, very expensive but they use the special seals that say kosher verified do not open. So at least with these two places I don’t have to worry about anyone eating or tampering with the food. I wish more restaurant started using that kind of Packaging.

They took a 30 min detour with my Chipotle order in the car last week! W. T. F. Anything else would have been ice cold! And anything else I’d have been very worried about it being tampered with given the 10 minute stop she made!

Could be dropping off the first order on the way to your second.

Jumbotron

Or picking up another order and dropping it off before dropping yours off. Order from these food delivery places enough and that will happen to you. Cold food and it is infuriating!

Doordash driver will eat your food and leave the crumbs for you. I hope chase just gives maybe 100 dollar credit or something for the food if they are following amex.. but i do hope they dont raise the annual price,

Going to need doordash promo codes doc! Like for uber please

Brian C 🐕

They have a monthly reddit thread for promocodes for postmates, I’m sure you could find similar for doordash. I haven’t looked because I have been using my sign up offer for $5 off my order

BTW William Charles there is also a referral offer for new sign ups that you can stack with this. Each user should have their own referral code. New user gets $5 off their first 3 orders (what i have been using myself) and the referrer gets $7. There is likely better sign up bonus/offers periodically through other channels, but thought I should mention it.

Not seeing this anywhere.. Not the app and not their website. Even though CSR is the only card I have on my DD account

Aditya Nair

Just remove your card and add again

veeRob

Easier said then done. The app won’t let you delete the only card, so you have to add another card, delete the CSR, then add the CSR back.

Unfortunately, I did that and am still not being offered the free subscription. Confused did you ever get it sorted out or are we in the same boat?

I’m having the same problem. Deleting the card and reading it doesn’t fix anything for me.

Go into the Door dash app, go to account, click on “Dashpass”. Then the offer should pop up.

CSR already has much reacher set of benefits than any other competitor premium cards (Citi or Amex), and has a lower AF, so I hope that they do not add any DoorDash monthly credits, as I do not see that happening for free.

Even adding the benefit like this one, which is not going to cost them much, but still probably not free makes me worry, as I would not want to get any benefits with little to no use in exchange of increase of the AF or reduction of the travel credit… the best I can hope for is no changes.

Also, no PC to CSR allowed until Jan 12 per the Chase rep I spoke with this morning – this suggests something will be changing soon…

Ya, like maybe being able to refer users to this card again to help offset the cost :/

in the FAQ, csp and csr have exactly the same language: “Free DashPass benefits on eligible orders for at least 12 months (and a maximum of 24 months) after activation.” Also Freedom and Slate get shortened benefit.

So maybe this is not the thing trigging AF increase? Otherwise it doesn’t make sense to increase only CSR but not CSP. I am expecting an CSR AF increase will at least come with some sort of monthly credit

My hope is it’s some sort of fancier Chase Offer…

Note in the FAQ that it also mentions Sapphire Preferred, Freedom, and Slate:

Benefits for Chase Sapphire Preferred cardmembers

* Free DashPass benefits on eligible orders for at least 12 months (and a maximum of 24 months) after activation.

Benefits for Chase Freedom and Slate cardmembers

* Free DashPass benefits on eligible orders for 3 months after activation, when the primary cardmember or an authorized user activates the benefit.

* After the first 3 months, the user will be auto-enrolled for the next 9 months in DashPass with a 50% discount applied to the then current membership rate.

* After the first 12 months, the user will be auto-enrolled into full price membership at the then current rate.

What a crappy benefit to add. This is good for non visa infinite cards, not for the Reserve. I don’t even use Door Dash normally so why would I want use it for free (with added fees and tips)? Just give us a general dining credit instead

Ivan
Ivan

Hey to each their own, I think it’s a great dining benefit for when you’re just feeling lazy. IMO much better than the Uber credit from Amex Plat since there’s no fixed monthly credit (I personally don’t use Uber that much). If I’m not mistaken you can use DoorDash for groceries too, …great for if you live in a city like San Francisco.

Geo
Geo

CSR is a watered down Infinite card at best.

Celia
Celia

I agree. Adding something like this to bump the annual fee makes me rethink keeping the card. Have no use for any of those delivery services. I dont even use regular delivery services, the food is ten times better when you pick it up.

Zauch
Zauch

Plus they charge me more for the same food when I order using DoorDash. The restaurant owner complain that DoorDash gets to keep 20% and hence the price increase to offset.

Hi
