Chase ‘Selected For You’ Offers No Longer Bypass 5/24

One of the more popular ways to bypass the Chase 5/24 rule is by applying through a ‘selected for you’ offer with a green tick mark. Unfortunately it looks like this method might no longer work, specifically data points from the start of March on wards are showing denials and no approvals for those over 5/24. The data points (1234) were originally found by U.S. Credit Card Guide. Keep in mind they aren’t in english, but you can use google translate to confirm for yourself.

Data Points

  • Didn’t bypass 5/24: 1234 (these are the original US Credit Card Guide data points) 1, 2, 3 [fixed APR], 4, 5, 6, 7,    (these are our new datapoints)
  • Did bypass 5/24:

In branch pre-approval data points:

  • Did bypass: 1, 2, 3,
  • Denied: 1,

I’d like to see some more data points from readers. Please use the following format:

  1. Are you sure you applied for a selected for you offer? Make sure you’re only providing datapoints regarding these offers. More information on them here.
  2. Did you apply after March 1st? We are only interested in new datapoints. If you did apply after March 1st, what date did you apply?
  3. What is your chase 5/24 status and total?
  4. What card did you apply for?

Fingers crossed that we get some datapoints showing approvals!

I have “selected for you” offer of Chase Freedom and applied through the link, but unfortunately was declined due to so many credit cards(12) within the past 24 months. I called twice to let them reconsider saying I had “selected for offer” from you. They just told the same thing that these advertisement can be sent to everyone!!!

The Value Traveler

I checked with my branch, and she said they just ‘torpedo’ those (yes, thats the exact word she used) to everyones mailbox hehe..

I received a green check mark offer in November. Applied and received a rejection letter. So after that I closed my Chase account. Why do business with a bank using deceptive practices? All they need to do is advertise that they will not approve you for any card if you are at 5/24.
Six months before that I received a 70,000 mile offer directly from United. They still rejected the app because of 5/24.
AMEX, and Citi advertise their rules yet Chase does not. They waste their time and yours.

I think you have a good approach here. Chase is losing out on potential customers.

Yeah right. Good profitable customers like us

The Value Traveler

Sa…is that the real portrait of you? hehe love da hat!

hahaha yeah real profitable we are. Despite that I bet it doesn’t look/feel great for their partners who just want to see big numbers when they look at new customers obtained.

In my opinion, this isn’t a very useful data point, because he doesn’t specify why he was rejected (we know the language that connotes a 5/24 rejection). He also seems to be unaware of the details if he’s over 5/24 and thought getting an offer directly from united meant he had a chance of bypassing 5/24

I believe those offers now show variable APR and are no longer pre-qualified, I got approved for a CSP around Feb and my selected offer had a fixed APR. Last week my SO had a CSP offer but her APR was variable. Not sure if this is connected to the change but just something I noticed.

This is the best data point in this whole thread.

Green check marks means nothing, It is just a way to get to pre-approved app! The only true sign that you are pre-approved for Chase credit card is that you are presented with the fix APR before you submit application. In addition, during pre-approved application you will be asked minimum questions, maybe only your income. If you are asked for name, DOB … – this is not a pre-approved app.

The above is true for both on-line and in branch.

Seems Chase is not at all going to let up on 5/24 and keeps closing more of the ways around it. Oh well. There’s other lenders out there if one doesn’t want to wait out 5/24.

I applied for Chase Sapphire about 10 days ago after noticing I had pre-qualified. I instantly got a message saying my application needed more time; the inevitable rejection letter arrived last Saturday (I think). I’m sure I am way over the 5/24 limit, especially as I just got the newish BofA premium card.

Mark

Does in-branch still work or was that nixed too?

Peter

Mark I wouldn’t try it. When I received my 70,000 mile offer directly from United I went in branch and asked. They were acting crazy, as if they never heard of 5/24 and why didn’t I just apply online, getting another chase rejection letter. They seemed it like it wouldn’t help at all going in branch. But if you are courageous enough to do it let us know the outcome.
I have 2 other bank accounts and when I went there they were all trying to get me to sign up for a credit card, the best credit cards that they had. But because of chase 5/24 I refused. But now I’m done with chase so I’m not worried about them.

Applied on 3/10 through selected for you for freedom card. Rejected and received letter saying too many cards in the last 24 months. I’m at 10/24. I’m pretty sure it is not specifically selected for me. I’m still seeing the same offer including two cards that I closed in the last 2 months. One more thing, all three offers showed up almost right after (1-2 days later) I closed my last chase credit card.

Please verify the Pricing & Terms of the offers online. As Luis notes we have known that the pre-approval requires a fixed APR, not a range.

Susan

I just checked the terms and they are ranges.

I applied CSP via selected for you with fixed APR on 3/18, declined but leaves 30 days message. Currently 12/24 no baddies. I recon the next day, but the person says I have too many accounts in last 2 years, which is the reason being declined… Then I argue with the person that I use select for you offer so that I can bypass the rule. However, the person coldly replied me that there is no such rule and after 2nd recon still a decline…..

I ended up applying Amex Plat and got instantly approval lmao

more info: I have CF (1yr), CFU (7 month), and Amazon (7 month). More than 30k in the account. I’m so mad it’s still a decline.

In my last posts – I was 10/24 when applying for United directly March 2017; and 10/24 when applying in Nov 2017 for the CSP with the green check mark. So an offer directly from United nor a green check mark are subject to the 5/24.

Important date point: I think even in branch pre-approvals are not working any more. I went on Friday (3/16) to open a business checking account. I was told by my banker that I was preapproved for 2 cards: CIP and CIC. I didn’t ask her to check for preapprovals, the system just showed them up as part of opening the business checking account. I applied for CIP and it seems I was denied (got the 7-10 day message and nothing else since then, same status on the phone). I am 15/24 and have 3 existing chase cards. FICO > 750 and 200k income.

Does going to a local branch and getting pre-qual offer still bypass 5/24?

Dean.
Dean.

No.

Peter
Peter

Yes and no! I am way over 40/24 and 2 weeks ago went to a local branch and found out I am preapproved for 3 Chase cards. I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred (no Reserve in the list) and got approved.
But, there are several DP’s from users with denials despite preapproved bank offers.
The bank employee who is filling the application may have something to it too!

During a trip to south Florida I wanted to apply for the Ink card in branch, was told I can’t get it because my business did not have a certificate from my state, I asked is this new? No Always, My other business chase card I applied online no problem few years ago, also banker claimed he never heard of 5/24

Likely he was just a dumbass or just did not want to help, as I was trying to make some small talk I said I notice the beach is just across the street, must be great to have your lunch in front of the ocean I’m jealous he said he hasen’t been across the street in the 7 years since he’s been here, like I said likely he’s just a dumb ass

btw, @ a NJ branch I got the Sapphire Reserve few months after it came out way over 5/24 so done right you can get the juicy cards, just go to the garbage state…
