[Nationwide] Chipotle Launches Rewards Program: Spend $125 & Get A Free Entree

[Update 3/12/19: Rewards program launched nationwide today. I believe the 15x for app orders is no longer a thing, so I’ve crossed that out.]

Update: Confirmation that the purchase doesn’t need to be in one of the select cities to earn points. Just set your zip to one of the eligible cities below to start earning points.

Chipotle is the latest restaurant chain to launch a rewards program. Currently the program is only available in Kansas City, MO/KS; Phoenix, AZ, and Columbus OH. Users outside of that area can join the waitlist for the beta program. You can actually just change your zip code in app and it will let you sign up, not sure if purchases outside those cities earn points or not. Chipotle has previously had a limited time rewards program called ‘Chiptopia‘. The new program works as follows:

  • Earn rates:
    • 10x points per $1 spent in restaurant or on catering
    • 15x points per $1 spent when you order online or with the Chipotle app
  • Redemption rates:
    • 1,250 points = free entree
  • Sign up bonus: Free chips and gauc after first purchase
  • Free reward after entering your date of birth

This means you need to spend anywhere from $125 to earn a free entree. I guess it’s better than nothing, but not that exciting. It also looks like after earning 1,250 points you have 60 days to redeem for a free entree otherwise it expires.

As a cashier at Chipotle, this only slightly frightens me.

How do you pull up the QR? I have been trying to get this since this article was first posted but cannot find it anywhere on my app.

I’ve earned my free reward (I do not live in targeted zip code), and pulled up the QR at the register a few days ago, but the cashier couldn’t figure out how to redeem it. She said it’s because it’s not in this market yet, but I doubt that, as earning points has worked fine.

Anyone else been there or have an idea how I can coach her next time?

Does anything happen when you tap the offer code with your finger (double or single)? I seem to recall that for a past BOGO experience, you had to take that extra step; and then it displays redemption instructions. Or maybe I’m all wet… but it doesn’t cost you anything to experiment, if it’s not working already.

ETA: Or maybe it’s a bottom scrolling gesture…

I signed up for an account with a Columbus zip code, but I don’t see where I actually earn points in the restaurant. Help?

Do I have to have a smartphone to participate?
Yes, to sign up for Chipotle Rewards, you need to download the Chipotle mobile ordering app and create a new account or sign in with your existing account.

You can still earn points and redeem rewards by placing digital orders through your online ordering account. Just be sure to use the app to sign up first. Pro tip – we’ve found that using our app to order, redeem, or scan your member code in-restaurant makes for the easiest experience.

Can I earn points anywhere?
You can earn anywhere in the US, for now. Just make a qualifying purchase and remember to log in (for app and online orders) or scan your code (for in-restaurant orders and catering pick-up).

S.O.S. I forgot to scan my Rewards member code!
Uh oh. The good news is that if you 1) ordered in-restaurant and 2) still have your receipt, we can initiate a points rescue mission using the retro-credit form found at the bottom of the Account Login Page that can be accessed only by logging in in to your account online. Click on the “Past Purchase Credit Request” link and make sure to select a restaurant and fill in all of the order details found on your receipt. If your request is approved, your points will show up in your account 24-48 hours. If your points do not show up after 48 hours, we may not have been able to grant your request.

Didn’t they used to give out a free entree with a $25 gift card purchase?

The offers on the back (or front) of receipts are usually way better than this.

Example:

Mc Donald’s buy one get one receipt.

You buy a triple cheeseburger for 3 bucks and get another free.

Two burgers for 3 dollars. Delicious? No. But a way better deal than spending 83 dollars for an entree.

Also Panda Express will give you a free entree for filling out a survey too.

Oh and by the way,
Not all McDonald’s get the BOGO on the cheeseburgers. I’ve found the better offers are not in city centers.
