Our Verdict
Nice little bonus. I got this offer on my Dividend, and reader Ryan did as well. Email subject includes “activate this offer for 5% back on eligible PayPal purchases.” Seems it’s targeted on select Citi cards, some cashback cards and some points cards.
The 5% should be on top of the standard rewards on the card. The term state: “Earnings…may overlap with other special offers in which you are currently enrolled.” I interpret this to mean that it can stack with other promotions.
[If you use Paypal with your Citi Dividend card at one of the 5% rotating category merchants, you may end up with 10% (5 + 5), though it might not code properly since it’s through Paypal.]
I am still enrolled in the last offer of 5x with online on my Preferred and have a bit more spending to do. The terms say that this promo may overlap with the last one, but what overlap means is unclear. Not sure if it’s worth it to risk or not, but less spending does sound tempting.

ThankYou Points earned will be posted to the primary cardmember’s account in 1–2 billing cycles.”
Followup with a data point: I was able to earn the 5x for Online and 5x for PayPal for the same purchases. I got the full 2,500 from both offers.
Does it work on paypal in store or its online only?
got this on my Citi Dividend – never got targeted for of the recent promos (pay utility bill earn 5% etc.) but this time I got lucky
Thanks for the heads up, double checked my email today and got it on my ThankYou Preferred!
Yay! Finally got something on this (Dividend flavor here) so I can dust it off and use it again.
I got this on Thank you Preffered however the T&C says – “Use your Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card and earn 4 bonus ThankYou Points per $1 spent on eligible PayPal purchases on top of what you already earn. That’s a total of 6 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on eligible dining out and entertainment PayPal purchases and a total of 5 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on all other eligible PayPal purchases, up to 2,500 points, through 12/12/2018.”
What the heck is that? Who uses Paypal for dining? I dont get it, am I the only one that got this odd offer.
Mine had all the same language on Preferred. I thought it was more confusing than helpful for my uses of this card.
As a holder of a TY premier and a TY preferred quite annoyed I didn’t get this. But I get those balance transfer offers constantly! Think i better double check I’m opted into the emails because it seems like everyone got them…
Shouldn’t you mention that PayPal charges a 2.9% fee when paying with credit card? The bonus is still net 2.1% but worth considering.
Most of us aren’t sending straight up money. When you purchase goods and check out with PayPal they don’t charge a cc fee.
I forwarded Will my Citi Thank You Premier additional 4x on PayPal transactions offer, valid through 12/12/2018 for up to 2500 points
Got 2500 bonus ty points offer on my Premier.
