I’m glad i found this post in time. Typically I agree that Citi Prestige TY Portal hotel rates are pretty marked up and do not provide any “real” savings. However, I have to report on this fairly “substantial” savings I got by booking a stay at the Shangri La Singapore for 6 nights. The actual rate on the TY Portal was around 60 to 90 dollars per night cheaper compared to the hotel website, AmEx FHR and Chase LHR. I actually ended up making a “suite” reservation with lounge access for the same price as a standard room rate thru FHR/Hotel site. And on top of that I was able to get the $75 off.

So overall, seems like one of those rare instances when the prestige showed its value (for me atleast around 400 dollars savings). I had been thinking about downgrading this to Citi DC at end of Q1 20 but might just hang on to it and see if I can see any “repeat performances” 🙂

This might just make up for the mark-up from their site. In my experience, virtually all the bookings thru the ThankYou portal are 5-10% more compared to most other OTAs, making the 4th night free benefit not as lucrative as it appears. I will also miss booking smaller places to stay thru the Concierge – the same portal can suffer from really poor selection even in heavily touristed areas (such as south of France)

So is it $750 before the 4th night discount kicks in, or not? The conditions don’t clear that up.

My Prestige card is still getting closed before annual fee hits in the Summer 2020, I will utilize Global Entry Credit next year.

Eliminated golf benefit, unlimited 4th night free, AA lounge benefit, etc. does not justify higher annual fee. Centurion lounge is better than AA lounge IMO.

Started viewing Million Mile blog with Darius and his wife before they sold the website and before they grew apart and got a divorce. Those were the days (5-10 credit card applications every 90 to 180 days).

Glad this site has not sold out.

Happy Halloween Doc & Chuck.

You forgot cutting redemption for AA airfare from 1.6c a point to 1.25c a point and now to 1c a point, plus raising AF from $450 to $495 and eliminating the $350 AF that was grandfathered in if you had a Citigold account back when Darius and his wife were still married. Oh yeah, and the loss of trip delay and trip cancellation insurance. Finally, the retention offers have gotten worse and/or disappeared.

I know, it’s a lot to keep up with. Spend hard on restaurants on the way out!

They also torched the roadside assistance which we used a few times. It was even better than Amex Plats.

Travel Agency at 5x is useful on the way out too.

Anyone know if this will work with the Premier too?
