Citi Prestige No Longer Available For New Sign Ups – Revamp Under Way? [Product Changes No Longer Being Offered]

Small update 09/19/18: It has been possible to product change to this card, but it’s now hardcoded to prevent customer service representatives from completing product changes to this card. We still don’t have any other updates regarding this product.

The Citi Prestige card is no longer listed on the Citi website and as far as I know there are no working application links. Citi representatives are also stating it’s no longer available.

It was rumored that this card would stop accepting sign ups on August 18th but up until today the card has still been live. There was also a rumor that the card was being entirely discontinued but Citi publicly stated this was not the case. I suspect Citi is just making changes to the card before relaunching it.

Called customer service regrading to my prestige card to do a product change.
They said ” prestige card service has been transferred to Amex, you need to call Amex”…

Another DP. My $450 fee posted earlier this month. I pretty much only use the card for fourth night free which has been great, however I’m not sure I have any big stays lined up to justify for this year. I called and told the rep I’m thinking of canceling because the travel insurance and 4th night free benefits are less valuable than they were and the earnings/perks are duplicated on other cards I have. I specifically mentioned I have CSR and amex plat. I asked if any retention offers, she said there weren’t any but since I’ve been a good citi customer she offered a $100 credit plus 5000 points which I took and kept the card. She did not comment on any upcoming changes to the prestige.

Called immediately after the AF posted and was denied any retention offers. Called today (about 3 weeks later), and was offered $100 credit or 5,000 pts. Was told that I could only choose one (didn’t try pushing it), so took the $100 statement credit. Still better than I was expecting.

Coincidentally, I called Citi today to try and get a retention offer (AF posted earlier this month). I couldn’t get any kind of offer and the rep told me I couldn’t downgrade to a Preferred or Premier without closing the account and getting a new card number.

The rep also said the Prestige is closed to new applicants but they’re being told the card will re-launch this quarter. So anyone with the AF coming due now kind of has to gamble on what the new benefits might be if you’re keeping the Prestige.

Mine posted last month I have the $350 annual fee. I don’t know how much your paying on the fee but if you have the $350 you should keep it. Use once for 4 night you’ll get your money back and use twice that’s a win there

If they could come to an agreement with American Airlines and add free lounge access or something that neither AMEX Platinum nor Chase Sapphire reserve offer it could be a winner. I think the 4th night free costs them way too much money on those that know how to use it and for those that don’t use it the cost of the card isn’t worth it.

I don’t think they’d lose too much now since they changed the 4th night benefit to average cost. They probly make a good bit from the hotels by directly booking with them. The prestige concierge is probably just another Travel agent that gets a big cut from hotels. How much are they really paying out for the 4th night here is the real question. What if they get 20% or even 25% of that 4 night stay as commission?

What’s the source on this?

I don’t understand why a product has to be pulled before a relaunch. Wouldn’t it just benefits will be added or removed?

it’s never coming back. They denied that of course, they had to, but it’s never coming back. It wasn’t economical from the Citi standpoint and combined w/ the losses on the Costco portfolio, they had to cut bait with Prestige. They dont lose much face by ending Prestige, whereas cutting Costco in any way would be a public admission of signing a bad deal to get the partnership away from AmEx.

Premier will henceforth be the top tier Citi card.

I couldn’t get any retention offer but they sent me some minor offer for 2500 ty, and then I called and said I’d like to keep the card if they could just give me 5000ty. (Since I’m at $350af, I break even.) I think the reps can give 5000ty as good will. I didn’t want to cancel because I like using their travel insurance on $5.60 taxes, and I’m going to get premier next year. Plus, having more priority pass options can be handy.

I’m probably cancelling by the end of Sep (annual fee is due o/a Sep 11th). Hope news on Prestige changes is available before then. My question is: what are the downgrade alternatives? Only Thank You cards, or are cards like the DoubleCash available when downgrading the Prestige?

It depends on whether you need to the keep the points. Points on a cancelled TYP card expire 60 days after cancelling, no matter what other TYP cards you have and no matter whether you’ve transferred them to another TYP card or not. The only way to avoid that is to downgrade the card to TYP Preferred.

If you don’t care about losing points earned on the Prestige, then you should be able to downgrade to DoubleCash once you’ve had the Prestige for a full year. (Most banks no longer let you product convert a card in the first year you have it.)

Citi has had horrible outcomes with hotels related cards in most recent memory. They lost Hilton to Amex, which gives birth to the prestige to fill their hotel void. And now the 4th night free perk is on the line.

Pahana, you do realize that Citi has offered the Prestige card since 2014 with a 4th night free on hotel stays so to say that the Prestige was designed to fill the hotel void created in 2017 is disingenuous. In fact the Citi Prestige Card has been around since at least 2013 and its predecessor the Citi Chairman card for years prior to that.

Prior to the launch of the 4th night free benefit back in 2013, Citi used to offer 15% off airfare booked through their vendor as well as an annual companion pass anywhere in the world that covered the base fare. This was an absolutely phenomenal benefit and the pricing was often the same as published airfare from the airlines so it represented a true savings unlike other cards that promised companion tickets but in reality used fixed pricing that made the total airfare cost with companion benefit equal to or greater than the published fare for the same seats. The card also used to offer flight points which was another great perk that was eliminated which allowed you to earn 1 thankyou point for every mile you flew on an airfare ticket purchased with the Prestige. However, these points were not redeemable until an equal number of points from purchases were achieved. With this benefit many of us were receiving upwards of 2.66% on all spend with the card back in 2013 since points could be used to purchase airline miles at a 1 to 1 ratio.
