[Rumor] Citi To Stop Accepting Applications For Prestige On 8/18

File this under highly speculative, but Flyertalk user garykung is reporting being told by a Citi rep that Citi will stop accepting Citi Prestige applications on 8/18. If this is the case I’d expect it’s due to Citi refreshing the benefits on the card and it will be relaunched rather than the card being completely discontinued. We will see if we can confirm this happening with any sources at Citi. Apply for the Citi Prestige card doesn’t make a lot of sense currently as there is no sign up bonus and it would prevent you from getting the Preferred/Premier cards (Premier currently has a 60,000 point offer).

Well, it has been almost three weeks since Citi stopped accepting applications for the Prestige. I don’t think it is coming back.

Got approved for the card. Plan to use to get the 60,000 points then pay off and close. Don’t like a card with an AF.

This card saved me $600 after the fee with no sign up bonus. When did I ever get that from Amex?

Longtime listener. Firs time commenter here. Absolutely love the site and community.

So I’m a Citigold private client customer and citi employee and I just applied for the Premier 60K offer. Since I am now ineligible for any thank you bonus in the short term, should I apply for the prestige now to try and lock in an uncapped 4th night free benefit?

The reduced annual fee and enhanced relationship bonus with my checking account and 4th night free would seem to be worth it even without the bonus.

I believe you’d get 1 year at the current uncapped 4th night free based on those new credit card rules so you should do now it if you plan to use it a lot. That way you’re grandfathered in if they change it. I don’t see that benefit going up anytime soon, so it’s probably only to get worse.

That would explain why neither rep offered any retention bonus the two times I called in about canceling the card recently.

Hmm. They must be updating some/all of their $450 cards.

(This may be unrelated to Citi Prestige, but may be a useful data-point.)
Last month, when I called Citi to upgrade my card from an AA Platinum ($95 annual fee) to a AA Executive ($450 annual fee) the rep on the phone told me she cannot upgrade my card, as they are no longer upgrading AA cards to AA Executive. Their computers are not allowing them until mid-August. When I as why, she said that there will be some updates on the AA Executive card. She told me to call back after mid-August or September and she will be able to upgrade my card by then.

So, with this news about citi Prestige card, now I’m wondering if Citi will be updating the earning rates on these $450 cards to make them more competitive? or maybe add/delete/change the card benefits and perks?

I’ve been waiting for all the banks come out with products or promotions to reel in SPG castaways. I hope Citi does something nice. Competing with the SPG Lux card should be easy since it sucks.

This is my favorite card for travel.
I use the 4th night benefit, recently did for Punta Cana trip, saved $600

I use it in combo with my AT&T card, where I get almost x3-5 TY points (retention offer every year for 2 yrs) for online spend and with prestige, redeem them for travel (sucks only 1.25 now),for annual fee of $100 (effective, $350 -$200 travel credit), with Priority pass, you can’t beat that !!!

I think this is the only card that has $500 return protection which is what I have used it for. I plan to get premier this month and then see if I can product change to another prestige later on if I can.

They are probably bleeding because of 4th night free. Anybody who doesn’t use that benefit has probably already cancelled and people using this benefit are causing big losses.

Yeah amazing that didn’t see that coming. I’m surprised they didn’t put a cap at the beginning – like $1,000 or $1,500 max/year. It would be still probably keep those using it since so much higher than AF, but limit their losses on the people that buy suites every time and stay 4-5 days!

When downgrading to a no annual fee card, do i need to pay off the balance or the annaul fee that Posts ? Will the balance be rolled over to the no annual fee card ?

Bring back the AA lounge access, 1.6 pt redemption rate, and 3x travel/dining expenses.
