Our Verdict

The Citi Sears card used to send out a lot of highly lucrative targeted offers, I suspect these will disappear with this new promotion. Some cardholders were being targeted with cash offers and some Citi ThankYou points.

This card is a bit confusing because  Shop Your Way Rewards points are worth 0.1¢ each towards Sears merchandise (Citi transfers at a rate of 1:12 for example). But this card actually gives you 5%/3%/2%/1% back in points, so it actually earns at 50/30/20/10.

The downside to this is that you need to redeem for Sears merchandise. Here are some better options:

After Sallie Mae’s death, I may get this card to cover some of the loss…

Citi converted my Sears Mastercard from earning to SYWR to TYP earlier this year. I thought they changed all the cards but I have since learned that many people still earn SYWR with the card.

I recently got the offer for 100 TYP per transaction of $1 or more up to 2,500 TYP. My brother, who still earns SYWR on his Sears Mastercard, got the offer of 1,000 SYWR per transaction of $1 or more up to 25,000 SYWR. Same dollar value but to me TYP are better than SYWR.

It will count as a new hard pull but Citi will convert it for you.
