[Expired] [Targeted] Citi: Spend on Amazon and Get $20 Bonus (Various Offers Available)

Deal has expired, view more Amazon deals by clicking here

Repost 10/6/19: another round went out today.

The Offer

Citi is sending out an email with a $20 spend bonus offer for Amazon. (Subject: “The best season just got up to $20 better”) Here are two variations of the offer being sent out:

  • Spend $120 and get a $20 statement credit
  • Get 5% back on Amazon purchases, up to $20 statement credit

The Fine Print

  • Your purchases must post to your account between 09/19/2019 and 11/18/2019.
  • We reserve the right to determine which purchases qualify for this offer.
  • Delays by the merchant, such as shipping, could extend the date that your purchases post beyond the promotional period.
  • The statement credit will be applied to your account within 2 billing cycles after the eligible purchases are posted.
  • In order to qualify for this offer, the account must be open and current at all times. If your account is closed for any reason, including if you convert to another card product, you may no longer be eligible for this offer.

Our Verdict

I got the 5% offer, DDG reports on the $20/$120 offer. 5% on top of ordinary rewards isn’t bad, but I’ll probably give this one a miss since it’s not a card I regularly use. The $20/$120 is obviously much better. There are possibly other versions of the offer out there as well.

I just got one today, must have been another round of emails. Mine was 15 for 75. Does anyone have success/failure trying to get a gift card reload to work yet?

DP: Never got the email offer, but my 0.5 amazon reload (to keep the card active) got a -0.03 merchant spend bonus, I wonder if that’s supposed to be this targeted offer?

You can’t just find the offers like this in your Citi login.

The only workaround is to subscribe, then filter your e-mail. This was explained here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/citi-spend-on-amazon-and-get-spend-20-bonus-various-offers-available/#comment-812266

This is similar to opting out of credit card offers in the prescreened national database…. it’s nice not to be bothered, but you could miss out on some sweet deals. You choose.

Didn’t receive but these Shiti promotions are almost not worth it. Actually getting the credits is painful.

Dealing with Citibank in ANY capacity is painful; an incredibly clueless bank.

I got the $20 off $120 on my Dividend card via e-mail today. Fine print no longer says: We reserve the right to determine which purchases qualify for this offer, that DoC quoted in the article.

My fine print says:
You will receive a one-time $20 statement credit after you spend at least $120 on eligible Amazon.com purchases with your Citi credit card. Your eligible purchases must post to your account between 09/19/2019 and 11/18/2019. Delays by the merchant, such as shipping, could extend the date that your purchases post beyond the promotional period. The statement credit will be applied to your account within 2 billing cycles after the $120 eligible Amazon.com purchase threshold is met. In order to qualify for this offer, the account must be open and current at all times. If your account is closed for any reason, including if you convert to another card product, you may no longer be eligible for this offer. This promotional offer is non-transferrable and applies to the account ending in the last 4 digits referenced in this offer.

I think it’s safe to say it’s only good for Amazon.com purchases, not 3rd party, and not gift cards. Too bad Citi couldn’t be bothered to say that. I am unable to view the offer in online banking to verify. My offers just show crap like Flex Loan and APR promos.

Where from above makes you think that gift cards are excluded? Thanks.

Because, for promo’s that Amex and Discover have done, I thought GC’s were excluded. I don’t value random GC’s higher than retail goods anyway, so if I attempt this, it will be for goods. And, if they are going to exclude something, GC’s and 3rd party sales would be the most likely target. If it works, go for it.

Thanks for answering. Discover allows gift cards on its rotating 5% category bonuses. I see nothing that suggests gift cards are not included in this offer.

Can you reload an Amazon gift card account and still qualify?

I have no idea. I wouldn’t try, but that’s just me. Maybe check the payments workshop post.

Got the 20/120 offer on my ThankYou Preferred, I’ve been getting some decent offers on this card lately despite rarely using it otherwise. Bonuses have always posted no problem.

I haven’t tried this promo, but just a general word of caution to beware the Shiti Bank promotions. you’ll probably have to call it and/or fight tooth & nail to get the payout. good luck!
