The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Costco members can get four $50 Lyft Ride Credit eVouchers for $169.99.

The Fine Print

  • Credits Do Not Expire
  • Usable on All Lyft Rides
  • Bike and Scooters Not Included
  • Limit 2 Per Member

Our Verdict

Nice 15% discount for Lyft users. Readers in the comments warn that Lyft credit/gc gets applied like a discount, so it’ll negate any other promos from being able to be used.

I don’t like Lyft. I don’t like their policies, and I would never buy their gift cards. I don’t like anything about Lyft. I’ve removed the app from my phone permanently, and will never go back no matter how many “deals” they come up with. I’ve also flagged them as “spam” and their emails go directly to trash without reading. They must be getting desperate for business.

Though the offer is good, keep in mind that, Like Uber, Lyft gift card can’t be used along with the promotional discounts that they offer.

Actually, I’ve had good luck stacking Uber Cash with other promotions. Uber cash is treated as a payment method, not a discount.

Yup. When it comes to gift cards or platinum credits, Uber is very flexible.

Lyft evoucher is far worse than Uber GC, too much restrictions, be aware, uber cash can be stacked with their discount promotions but Lyft does not

Sitting on Lyft gift cards because they don’t stack. Uber gcs do and I keep on buying them.

that isn’t true – they stack fine. when you’re prompted to rate the driver you can choose which to apply, and I constantly use gift cards and promotions. did it yesterday.

I have been very disappointed with Lyft gift cards. Generally when you pay a merchant with gift card its considered just any other form of payment. So if you have some discount or promo code, that is applied to your total and then you can pay with cash, credit card, gift card.

Lyft however considers this as discount and you cant apply these with any other offers that might be on your account.

I’ve actually had the opposite issue. Uber has been awful with random promotions, and don’t allow you to choose. AFTER you ride with Lyft, you can customize which offers you want to apply, and you can absolutely combine Lyft “money” with the coupons/discounts they issue randomly. Have you tried that?

You can change the payment to uber cash/credits, while the ride is in progress.

This is correct. I am able to combine gift cards and promotions using this method.

Yes, you can combine. But what you can’t do is say WHICH promotion you want to use. I refer a lot of people to Uber, and they now take my $5 referral that is expiring LAST. It’s absurd, and now I have referral credits expiring on me every day.

I’ve had nothing but issues with Lyft money. Lyft treats them as basically a coupon, making your ride “free,” and essentially making you ineligible for any other promotions (20% off your next 10 rides, etc.) they’re offering, if you want to use the money. You also don’t get Delta/Hilton points on the “free” amount.

Thank you for your DP. “Ineligible for any other promotions” holds the trigger.

How do you do that after the ride is completed? Do you go to the receipt and look for somewhere to apply your current discounts or do you have to send them a support ticket?

when you go to rate the driver you can decide which promotions and payment methods to use.

I think the point is that with Lyft you can’t combine the discounted gift cards with other promotions as you can with Uber. This really negates any discount you’d be getting on the gift cards, if you normally use other promotions within the app.

This has not been my experience. In the past two years I’ve always been allowed to combine discounted gift cards with other promotions with Lyft. The last time I did it successfully was just last week.

Nicole

that’s not true. you can absolutely combine discounted gift cards AND other promotions, like I described above. you can adjust which to use (and can combine, trust me!) when you go to rate your ride.

This is really good to know. I was about to pull the trigger on this and use them during reimbursed work travel. Sounds like I would basically get a receipt for each ride with either $0 or whatever the remaining gift card value didn’t cover?

Chuck – this isn’t the case. As most recently as yesterday I used Lyft gift card credit and a promotion. The only time you cannot combine the two is if you’re doing a Business ride (Business rides cannot use any promotions of any kind).
