There are three different credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian & TransUnion), they all compile their own credit data on individual consumers. This means that your credit score with one bureau isn’t the same as at another bureau. Different credit card issuers will pull your credit report from different credit bureaus. This page will show you which card issuers pull which credit bureaus.

Big Card Issuers
American Express
- Experian
AmEx will almost always pull your Experian credit report. In some rare cases they’ll also pull your TransUnion credit report (or just your TransUnion report), but in 90% of cases it’ll be your Experian report. This is only for credit cards issued by AmEx (e.g the EveryDay Preferred card) and not AmEx cards issued by other lenders (e.g Travelocity AmEx By Barclay)
Bank of America
- Experian
Normally Bank of America will pull your Experian report, but in some cases TransUnion or Equifax will be pulled. You can view a full breakdown here.
Barclaycard
- TransUnion
Barclay’s will almost always pull your report from TransUnion. This should be seen as a good thing as most other issuers will pull from Experian or Equifax. This means you’ll have less hard pulls on your TransUnion credit report and thus you’ll be more likely to be approved for a credit card (as your credit score will be higher).
Capital One
Capital One is known for pulling your report from TransUnion, Experian & Equifax.
Chase
Chase will pull a different credit bureau based on what state you reside in. Some people also believe it varies by card as well, but we think that the state you live in decides which credit report will be pulled. Click here to find out which bureau they’ll pull for you.
