Credit Sesame Reaches One Million Free Identity Theft Protection Customers

We’ve already told you about the free identity theft protection that credit monitoring site Credit Sesame is offering. They recently reached out to let us know that they’ve reached more than one million customers of the service. Personally I think their offering is comparable to paid identity theft insurance programs, as both of these only cover expenses that are incurred in recovering your identity (e.g stolen funds are not covered) so having insurance of $1,000,000 isn’t really necessary.

I would’ve expected Credit Sesame to reach this milestone sooner, but they require their users to opt into this service rather than giving it to them by default. If you’re already a member, make sure you sign up to this service if you want to be able to take advantage of it. Other free credit monitoring programs such as Credit Karma, Quizzle, Credit.com & WisePiggy don’t currently offer any identity theft protection.

It’ll also be interesting to see how useful the “identity theft recover specialists” end up being, we should start to see user reports flooding in as identity theft rates are extremely high (~11 million a year). If you’ve used one, please get in touch and contact us.

I see now, all the way on the bottom. Target offered free monitoring back by the glitch.
